Trio on murder bid charge

By PAVEL BAILEY

THREE men were arraigned in Magistrate’s Court on Friday accused of attempting to murder a man.

Dion Exelant, 20, Omar Atkinson, 21, and Pedreito Mejias 22, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans accused of attempting to murder Tarrico Bowleg on April 23.

Due to the nature of their offence, the accused were not required to enter a plea in court.

They were then informed by the magistrate that their case would proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

Magistrate Vogt-Evans also informed the accused that they could apply to the Supreme Court for bail. Until bail is granted, they were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

The accused are expected to return to court on July 7 for service of their VBIs.

In a separate case, a man was arraigned on Friday for firearm and drug charges.

Rashad Williams, 29, appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly on three charges of possession of a firearm, ammunition and dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

On April 27, Williams was arrested after being found in possession of a black G2C Taurus 9mm with a 9mm magazine containing three unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition without a licence and the serial number defaced. He was also caught with six grams of Indian hemp on him with a street value of $30.

In court the accused pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Willams was remanded to BDCS until his bail hearing on May 2.
