Prevention measures

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The government must show and demonstrate it is committed and serious on crime by taking Crime Prevention Policies to reduce crime that is becoming a vexing problem for many Bahamians in The Bahamas.

The first Crime Prevention policies is for the government to reduce guns in The Bahamas, that are responsible for the high murders and robberies in The Bahamas.

There is a need to have a Police Gun Task Force to investigate how illegal guns are entering into The Bahamas and to coordinate with the Christian Council to have illegal guns buyback amnesty programmes that will allow Bahamians to be paid and not charge for bringing in illegal guns.

Also, the Police Gun Task Force will implement Road Traffic Blocks in the Bahamas to search cars for carrying illegal guns to reduce guns in neighbourhoods with the highest home robberies and murders.

The next policy is to make it mandatory that if a Bahamian is caught with an illegal gun he must spend 19 years in jail, if caught in robbery with an illegal gun 20 years in jail and if kills someone with an illegal gun it will be 30 years in jail.

It is the government’s job to make the penalty of committing crimes harsher to deter reduce and prevent crimes in The Bahamas.

If the government failed to deter, reduce and prevent criminals from continuing to commit crimes it can be a disaster in causing the Bahamian people to lose confidence in the government protecting their lives, homes and businesses from crime.
