Bewery holds safety week

COMMONWEALTH Brewery last week celebrated its annual Global Health and Safety Day that aims to prevent occupational accidents and raise awareness around mental health and work-life balance.

The event was also an opportunity to educate employees on Heineken’s Life-Saving Commitments (LSC), which outlines 12 safety standards that guarantee safety at work and protects the physical integrity and life of employees and contractors.

Linkoya Ferguson- Smith, safety health and environment manager said: “The desire to work in a safe and protected atmosphere that promotes wellness and safety is vital for the well-being of both employees and employers because human loss is immeasurable, intolerable, and detrimental for families.”

As the country transitions out of the COVID pandemic, this year’s Global Health and Safety Day provided a chance to engage staff through a series of interactive health initiatives, including a complimentary workout session with Total Physique Fitness and live smoothie demos and giveaways with Nutrition Ready to Go (NRG).

In addition to understanding the importance of healthy eating, dietary needs and remaining active, employees were engaged in mental health dialogues with Dr Edrica Richardson, a licensed marriage and family therapist and Dr Timothy Barret, managing director of Holistic Health Services Ltd.

During these sessions, staff gained valuable everyday tips for coping with stress and balancing work and family life.

CBL aims to create a culture where people can openly discuss and address their welfare while embracing enjoyment of life.

This holistic approach brings together four essential dimensions - professional, emotional, social, and physical well-being, which, when balanced, provides a real sense of stability and an increased ability to manage uncertainty and stressful situations.
