Two in court over hemp find

By PAVEL BAILEY

TWO Inagua men were charged in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday with possession of 40 lbs of Indian Hemp.

Nerico Beneby, 23, and Gregory Archer, 27, both appeared before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney on charges of conspiracy and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

On May 8 in New Providence the accused are claimed of have been in possession of 40 lbs of Indian Hemp. Archer is further alleged to have had $56 confiscated from him that day, as it was believed to be the proceeds of crime.

In court, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges against them.

While Archer had a previous drug conviction from 2014 for which he was sentenced to a fine of $1,000 or three months in prison, the court had no objections to bail in the current matter.

As such, Magistrate McKinney set bail at $8,000 each with one or two sureties, on condition they report into Matthew Town Police Station every Friday before 6pm.

Beneby and Archer’s trial was adjourned to July 26 and 28.
