A MAN was granted bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday for an alleged vehicular assault on three people and causing damage to another car.
Fantino Johnson, 22, appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt Evans on three counts each of assault with a dangerous instrument and threats of death. He further faced charges of damage and assault.
At 10.30am on May 8 at Lincoln Boulevard, Johnson allegedly assaulted Romado Minnis, Romeika Dean and Romeo Dean with a vehicle as well as threatening their lives.
During this incident, the accused is further accused of physically assaulting Minnis and causing $450 worth of damage to Wilner Antoine’s 1991 Mitsubishi Cantre’s rear bumper.
While Johnson pleaded guilty to the assault and one of the vehicular assault charges, both against Romado Minnis, he pleaded not guilty to the remaining six charges against him.
The accused then admitted to the court that he did have an argument with Minnis, who he referred to as his friend, on the day in question, but maintained his innocence for the remaining charges.
Although Johnson had a previous conviction from last year for disorderly behaviour, the court had no objections to bail. As a result, he was granted $6,000 bail with one or two sureties on condition he sign in at Wulff Road Police Station every Sunday by 7pm.
Magistrate Vogt-Evans warned the accused not to interfere with any of the witnesses upon his release from custody.
Johnson is expected to return to court on July 1 for sentencing and trial for his remaining charges.
