A MAN was sentenced to eight months in prison yesterday after being found guilty of having an unlicenced 9mm pistol and ammunition in 2020.
Ricardo Matthieu, 23, stood before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans for sentencing on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
Matthieu was found with a JA 9mm pistol and five unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition in January 2020.
After reviewing the testimony of several witnesses in the matter, including the defendant and his arresting officers, Magistrate Vogt- Evans found him guilty of the offence.
Matthieu was convicted and sentenced to one year at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS) for each count to be served concurrently. However, time spent on remand was taken into consideration and the accused was told that he would only have to serve eight months.
Before being taken into custody, the magistrate told the accused that he still had time to turn his life around.
