A 64-year-old man accused of having sex with a minor last year was remanded in custody yesterday.
Maxwell Ferguson was arrested after police alleged he had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl between November and December of last year.
He is further accused of trying to have unlawful sex with her again in January and indecently assaulting her on two separate occasions between September and October 2021.
Ferguson was not required to enter a plea when he appeared before Magistrate Algernon Allen, Jr, yesterday. He was told the matter would proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
The presentation of the VBI is expected on January 13. Ferguson was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until then.
However, he has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
