A MOTHER was sentenced to one month in prison after neglecting her four-year-old daughter last month.
The 45-year-old woman, whose name is being withheld to protect the child’s identity, was charged with cruelty to children before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.
The defendant is said to have abandoned her young daughter on July 5, causing her unnecessary suffering.
After pleading guilty, the accused was sentenced to one month at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. She was also ordered to attend parent counselling at the Department of Social Services.
The court is awaiting a report from social services to determine if she will regain custody of her child. She will go to court for the report on October 19.
