A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was sent to a juvenile centre yesterday after being accused of the armed mugging of a pizza delivery driver earlier this month.

The accused, who cannot be named because he is a minor, stood before Magistrate Kara Turnquest- Deveaux in the presence of his guardian.

He faced charges of armed robbery and receiving.

It is alleged that on February 2 in New Providence the accused, armed with a handgun, robbed Barbara Swain while she was doing deliveries for Domino’s Pizza. It was during this incident that the accused is said to have stolen four pizza boxes, three orders of BBQ wings, a sandwich, two sodas and $182 in cash.

Due to the nature of the offence, the teenager was not required to enter a plea. He was informed that his matter would be transferred to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

The accused was also told that as the magistrate did not have the jurisdiction to grant bail for this offence, he had the right to apply for bail through the higher court. He was remanded to the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys.

Service of the VBI in this matter is slated for May 23.
