Please allow your valuable space to express the utter disgust toward the RENTOKIL sign mounted on Shirley Street across from the old Gleneagles Hotel.

For quite some time now, there has been a growing awareness of cruelty to animals throughout our Bahamaland.

More so noticeable in our canine population where some of our brave animal activists are venturing into unsavory areas in order to rescue badly treated dogs.

The photographs of mistreatment illustrating hacked flesh and chronic starvation are enough to turn any stomach.

There are laws on our books warranting punishment to those who abuse but seemingly in total disregard in this day and age?

Our government needs to pay new and close attention here.

The Rentokil sign promoting a service of “trapping raccoons” becomes more repulsive when first-hand knowledge of their solution to trapped animals has been voiced over the phone, saying simply “They dead”! Heaven forbid we discover what method this company uses?

The question has been also raised as to who’s property this sign is mounted on? Did Rentokil have permission to erect such a monstrosity for public viewing?

I close with a reliable quote from a Social Media response to this signage: “I’ve lived in 14 countries across four continents and I can assure you one true barometer of civility and culture is the way citizens and government treat other species, especially sentient creatures and wild ones.

“It takes a pretty deep dive into the abyss of ignorance to come up with this abomination!”
