POLICE Commissioner Clayton Fernander vowed yesterday to crack down on Japanese vehicle owners improperly renting their cars, a practice that aids criminals.

“We are coming for you,” he said, issuing the warning during the Office of the Prime Minister’s weekly press briefing yesterday.

He said most serious crimes in the country are being committed with the aid of Japanese vehicles.

“In every crime report, you will hear a Note, a Cube leaving the scene,” he said.

“We note that a number of persons are purchasing these Japanese vehicles and they are renting it without being regulated or to get SD plates or they’re just renting it to individuals and what they are doing, no identification are being presented to them.”

“The persons renting the vehicle are changing the plate to go and commit crime.”

“We have identified some matters like that and again we’re saying to members of the public, we’re going to crack down on that.”

He said his team is working closely with the Road Traffic Department and there will be an aggressive approach in the coming days.

“We’re sending a stern warning to individuals who are in that position to get it right because we are coming for you,” he said. “There’s some procedures and laws that you have to govern and we will ensure that we enforce the law as we always do.”
