A MAN was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to stealing a car from a residence in Pride Estates last week.

Magistrate Kendra Kelly charged Deangelo Delancey, 24, with two counts of stealing, two counts of receiving, two counts of deceit of a public officer and housebreaking.

Delancey is accused of breaking into the residence of Cleo and Sahaila Walters in Pride Estates on January 22. He allegedly stole a silver coloured 2014 Honda Fit valued at $8,500.

The accused is also alleged to have stolen $2,000, a gold Rolex bracelet valued at $750, a $600 AP watch and a $120 GPS car tracker.

Delancey is accused of giving false statements to Inspector B Moss on January 27 to evade arrest.

Although the accused pleaded guilty to the housebreaking and stealing charge concerning the car, he pleaded not guilty to the remaining charges. The receiving and deceit charges attached to the car theft were dropped.

While Delancey’s bail was set at $4,000 for the pending charges, he was sentenced to six months in prison for the car theft.

The defendant’s trial for the remaining charges starts on March 6.
