BAHAMIAN third baseman Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr and the New York Yankees were looking to extend the World Series to seven games, but the Los Angeles Dodgers had plans to celebrate a World Series title win on Wednesday night and they did it.

The Dodgers rallied for a major comeback thanks to a five-run fifth inning that translated into a 7-6 World Series victory in game five at Yankee Stadium.

The Dodgers clinched their eighth World Series title win with the come-from-behind victory. Despite the tough loss, Chisholm Jr did not go down without a fight.

He was a part of the early scoring surge that led to a 5-0 Yankees lead at the bottom of the third inning.

He capped off game five of the World Series 1-for-4 with a home run, RBI, a run scored and a strikeout.

“Jazz” closed out the MLB postseason batting .182 with 10 hits, two homers, two RBIs and six stolen bases in 14 games played.

Aaron Judge finally broke out of his slump and cracked a homer on a fly ball to the right centre field while Juan Soto scored a run at the bottom of the first inning.

Chisholm Jr, the second Bahamian to compete in a World Series, nailed another home run for the Yankees on a fly ball from Dodgers’ pitcher Jack Flaherty. It was the second homer of his 2024 postseason run and the first of his career in the World Series.

The back-to-back homers were followed by a single from Alex Verdugo and Anthony Volpe scored. At this point, the Yankees were on top 4-0 and then Giancarlo Stanton homered to the right field to give New York what appeared to be a comfortable five-run deficit.

The Dodgers showed major signs of life at the top of the fifth.

Freedie Freeman, who had back-to-back games with home runs, singled on a line drive to Judge leading to a score by Tommy Edman and Will Smith.

Mookie Betts was locked and loaded on third base and went on to score after Teoscar Hernandez doubled on a sharp fly ball to Judge. Freeman also scored his second run of the game on this play to tie the score at 5 apiece.

The Yanks were desperate to hold onto the lead as Stanton hit a sacrifice fly ball to the centre and Soto scored a run while “Jazz” made it to second base.

The Dodgers went on to put the game away at the top of the eighth with two runs scored.

Since being traded to the Big Apple back in July, “Jazz” cemented himself as one of the premier MLB players.

Despite switching positions from centre fielder to third baseman for the first time in his pro career, Chisholm instantly experienced success in the Yankees pinstripes.

He finished the season batting .273 with 48 hits, 11 homers, 23 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.

The flashy Bahamian MLB pro also put the injury woes of the past behind him.

He played a career-high 147 games combined with the Marlins and Yankees. He had a batting average of .256 with a career-high 24 homers, 73 RBIs and 40 stolen bases.

After getting a taste of his first World Series, the future is bright for “Jazz” in New York.
