SHANNON Hanna II continues to have an active year in amateur wrestling. Coming off the heels of a third-place finish at the U23 Pan-American Championships, Hanna finished in 13th place at the 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships.
The big event was held in Tirana, Albania, last week.
He now has a 10-5 win/loss record for the season which started off with a bronze-medal finish at the Seniors Pan-American Championships earlier this year.
The 23-year-old Pan Am bronze medallist opened up the U23 World Championships with a 8-3 victory by points against Georgia’s Goga Otinashvili in the 65kg freestyle division.
He was up next against Abbas Ebrahimzadehsavadkouhi in the preliminary round and fell 6-0 via victory by points.
Hanna ended the tournament ranked 13th out of 26 wrestlers in the 65kg freestyle category at the U23 World Championships. It has been a pretty successful season for Hanna to date.
The Campbell University graduate student wrestled at six tournaments in 15 matches and won a total of three medals along the way.
Additionally, he has a 10-5 win/loss record with 77 points scored and 46 points conceded.
Hanna got his first medal of 2024 at the Seniors Pan-American Championships in Mexico.
It was the first international medal won by a Bahamian in wrestling.
He collected gold at the 2024 Pat Shaw Memorial and another bronze medal at the U23 Pan-Am Championships this summer.
