KIWANIS CLUB OF NEW PROVIDENCE

The Kiwanis Club of New Providence hosted its annual Back to School project on Saturday August 24, at Claridge Primary School.  The Sponsored Leadership Program & Youth Service Committee was on the move once again organising this annual project to ensure the children were equipped with essential school supplies for a successful new school year.

Children from our sponsored schools and the Prison Fellowship were invited to join us for a time of fun and giving back.   Musical chairs and the egg and spoon races were some of the favourites among the children in attendance!

Lunch was also served to all attendees before the distribution of the school supplies.  Branded backpacks filled with supplies inclusive of composition notebooks, rulers, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, markers, and geometry sets were provided to the children in preparation for the opening of school.

The Sunshine Pilot Club partnered with our club in this initiative, forging a new relationship with another civic organisation.

In addition to impacting the lives of children, this project also encouraged teambuilding, as our club’s four teams/flower groups, Birds of Paradise, Purple Orchids, White Lilies, and Yellow Roses, were asked to work together to outfit the backpacks with the school supplies.  What a rewarding project that not only enhanced our enduring friendships, but simultaneously improved the lives of children and the community.

Rotaract Club of East Nassau

The Rotaract Club of East Nassau has consistently demonstrated its commitment to community service, positively impacting various sectors of society. Over the years, the club has spearheaded numerous charitable and environmental initiatives, focusing on improving the lives of Bahamians and fostering community unity. Through their hard work, collaboration, and unwavering dedication, they have made significant strides in addressing local needs.

Below are some of the key accomplishments of the club that showcase their dedication to service for the new Rotaract year thus far.

Montague Beach Cleanup

Recognising the importance of preserving the natural beauty and cleanliness of public spaces, the Rotaract Club of East Nassau organised a beach cleanup at Montague Beach, one of Nassau’s cherished coastal areas. The event saw volunteers gather to remove litter, plastic, and other debris, helping to restore the area to its pristine condition. This initiative not only improved the aesthetic of the beach but also highlighted the club’s commitment to environmental conservation. It was a proactive step in raising awareness about the significance of reducing pollution and protecting marine life in the Bahamas.

Unity House Cleanup

As part of their mission to serve vulnerable populations, the club embarked on a cleanup project at Unity House, a home for the elderly. The effort involved tidying up the facility and creating a more comfortable living environment for the residents. Volunteers worked diligently, ensuring that the seniors had clean, safe, and welcoming surroundings. This project showcased the club’s dedication to supporting the aged, often one of the most overlooked segments of the population. By giving back to the elderly community, the Rotaract Club emphasized the importance of care and respect for those who have contributed to society throughout their lives.

Bahamas Humane Society (Dog Washing)

In another act of service, members of the Rotaract Club partnered with the Bahamas Humane Society to assist with dog washing and care. This initiative was not only about improving the hygiene and health of the animals but also about supporting the efforts of the Humane Society in managing stray and abandoned animals in Nassau. The event provided an opportunity to show compassion for animals while promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. The club’s involvement demonstrated their understanding of the broader community, including the welfare of animals.

Back to School Give Back

As part of their focus on youth and education, the Rotaract Club organised a back-to-school give-back programme, providing students with essential supplies for the new school year. This initiative targeted underprivileged families, helping to ease the financial burden of school preparation. From backpacks to stationery, the Rotaract Club ensured that children in need were equipped with the tools necessary for academic success. By investing in education, the club not only helped families but also contributed to shaping the future of young Bahamians, fostering a culture of learning and opportunity.

PACE Bahamas Donation of Baby Items for At-Risk Mothers

Understanding the challenges faced by at-risk young mothers, the club made a heartfelt donation to PACE Bahamas (Providing Access to Continued Education), an organisation supporting pregnant teens and young mothers. The donation included baby items such as diapers, formula, and clothing. This initiative was a reflection of the Rotaract Club’s belief in empowering vulnerable groups and supporting the next generation. Through this donation, the club demonstrated its empathy and commitment to helping mothers and children overcome obstacles, ensuring they have the resources needed for a better start in life.

Successful “Souse Out” Fundraiser

The Rotaract Club of East Nassau also hosted a successful “souse out” fundraiser, a much-loved Bahamian tradition. This event brought the community together over bowls of hearty souse, with the proceeds going towards funding the club’s future projects and charitable endeavors. The success of the fundraiser exemplified the club’s ability to mobilise community support and raise funds for a good cause. It highlighted the collective spirit of giving and the importance of community engagement in making a difference. The event not only provided financial support for the club’s initiatives but also served as a celebration of Bahamian culture and unity.

Through these initiatives, the Rotaract Club of East Nassau has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to community service and its ability to create a lasting impact on the lives of many. Their projects, whether focused on environmental conservation, support for the elderly, youth education, or animal welfare, reflect a broad approach to service. They continue to be a shining example of how local organisations can work together to address pressing social issues and inspire positive change.

RotarY Club of Nassau

A day planned of activities for the students of the Stephen Dillet Primary School was dampened by the inclement weather on August 31. Ministry of Health volunteers and Dr Tamika Ferguson, dentist at Optimum Dental Care, navigated through the rain to be a part of the day.

On September 6, members of RCN arrived at the school bearing gifts of food and self-care items, along with lunch bags which were graciously appreciated by the students. Songs of hope were sung as the students awaited the delights.

We are forever grateful for the contributions made by our partners for the event, D’Albeanas Agency, Lowes Wholesale Ltd, and Taxi drivers along with members, friends and families of the Rotary Club of Nassau.
