ANOTHER arrest has been made in the fallout from the mass looting of a container barge that ran aground off Abaco last month, as police continue to track goods believed to have been taken from the stranded vessel.
Chief Superintendent Michael Thurston said an adult male from Blackwood, Abaco, was arrested on December 12 after officers recovered six tyres suspected to have been stolen from the Brooklyn Bridge barge.
The arrest comes as part of an investigation sparked by the grounding of the barge after its tow line The police must be fair, reasonable and at all times transparent in their dealings with members of the public, Mr Johnson said, adding that his client has no connection to the parliamentarian involved.
Mr Campbell was questioned and held in custody without a warrant reportedly over a missing firearm said to have been stolen from the MP’s home on Andros. He was later released without charge, which prompted legal action.
In a Facebook post outlining his account, Mr Campbell said the incident stemmed from a Friday night outing, at which time he was alleged to have been driving without a licence. He said the MP arrived with several officers. He said the MP objected and insisted the investigation continue, leaving him detained for another half-hour.
According to Mr Campbell, there was no indication that anything was missing until the MP later alleged that he had “lost something”.
He said police later told him they were reviewing security footage because the MP had “lost something”, but could not specify what.
On the following Monday, officers took Mr Campbell to his residence and conducted a search in the presence of his mother, but found nothing.
“This was also the first time it was alleged a firearm,” he said.
Mr Campbell said the officers placed him in custody, but would not say how long he would be held.
Mr Johnson said those circumstances form the basis of his concern and would be addressed formally with police leadership.
