New initiative brings free Wi-Fi to 150 buses and taxis in New Providence

A NEW partnership between BTC and AD-Fi, a subsidiary of AD+ECH Global, will introduce free Wi-Fi on 150 public buses and taxis in New Providence, according to a press release announcing the initiative.

Minister of Energy and Transport JoBeth Coleby-Davis said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader plans to improve the public transportation sector and enhance passenger experience.

AD-Fi has integrated its advertising platform with BTC’s data services, allowing bus operators to provide Wi-Fi at a reduced cost. The company claims that this model lowers the cost of unlimited data per bus by nearly 90 percent, making free Wi-Fi a sustainable amenity for public transit.

AD-Fi CEO Keith Russell, Jr, described the initiative as a step toward bridging the digital divide, while Delmaro Duncombe, BTC’s director of B2B operations, said the project reinforces BTC’s commitment to expanding digital access.

Beyond public transportation, AD-Fi is also exploring ways to help restaurants, bars, Airbnb hosts, and boutique hotels monetise their Wi-Fi networks through advertising partnerships. The company says its sponsored Wi-Fi platform will allow businesses to earn revenue based on the number of ads viewed on their networks.

According to the press release, AD-Fi will handle all ad sales and platform management, allowing businesses to benefit from the service without additional effort.

The partnership between AD-Fi and BTC is being positioned as part of a broader push to expand connectivity and create digital revenue opportunities in The Bahamas.
