THE sudden death of Tristan Bootle, a local government candidate from Murphy Town, has left the Abaco community in mourning.
Bootle, 35, was well-known for his dedication to community service and efforts to improve the lives of residents.
Derek Dawkins, former chairman of Murphy Town and Deputy Chief Councillor for the Central Abaco District, said he served alongside Bootle on the Murphy Town committee for six years. During his tenure, Bootle actively supported the community by helping senior citizens, distributing groceries, and aiding with building repairs.
Mr Bootle reportedly was found unresponsive in his home yesterday morning. Mr Dawkins, a colleague at The Bahamas Water and Sewage Corporation, shared that they often worked on projects together and spoke daily. However, on Monday, Bootle explained he wasn’t feeling well and would not be going to work.
Mr Dawkins got concerned when Bootle stopped answering calls. He later visited the 35-year-old’s home to check on him.
“I told him to leave his door open so that I or anyone could access it in case of emergency,” he said. “So, when I went there this morning to check on him, when I turned the knob, the door was unlocked, so that was my first concern.”
“When I went in the room, I called his name before I touched him. He didn’t answer. He was lying on the bed on his back. I felt his leg. It was ice cold.
Mr Dawkins and colleagues called for assistance, but it was too late. He noted that Bootle had struggled with diabetes, though the exact cause of death remains undetermined.
Bootle is survived by his parents, twin siblings, sisters, and other relatives of his close knit family. He was described as a kind, reliable, and joyful presence in the Murphy Town community.
Just a day before his passing, Bootle submitted his nomination for the local government elections. Mr Dawkins highlighted his aspirations for community development, saying he wanted to climb the ladder to play a pivotal role in advancing Murphy Town.
“He will surely be missed,” Mr Dawkins added. “He was loved by everyone who knew him. He always had a smile on his face. It’s a deadly blow for the community of Murphy Town.”
The Bahamas Water and Sewage Corporation also expressed their condolences in a statement on Facebook.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our colleague, Mr Tristan Bootle, an employee of the Abaco Operations team,” the statement said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who worked closely with him. At this difficult time, we stand with his loved ones and our Abaco team as they navigate this loss.”
