Three Haitian nationals convicted of overstaying and fined $1,500 each

THREE Haitian nationals were convicted before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley of overstaying during a hearing in Magistrate’s Court last week Thursday.

Yvens Gazena and Alain Lemour were each fined $1,500 or sentenced to six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS). Cassandra Valde was fined $750 or sentenced to three months at BDOCS.

Authorities said that upon payment of the fines or completion of their respective sentences, the people would be handed over to the Department of Immigration for deportation.

The Department of Immigration reiterated its commitment to enforcing the country’s laws and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
