THE University of The Bahamas Mingoes men and women’s track and field team turned in strong performances at the 2nd Annual Noble Preparatory Track and Field Invitational on Saturday at the Thomas A. Robinson Track and Field Stadium.
UB saw a sweep in the Open men 800 metres race led by Lhevinne Joseph who came out on top. He clocked 1:56.75 to cross the finish line comfortably. Jackson Ozias finished second in a time of 2:03.14 and rounding out the top-three position after stopping the clock at 2:05.89 was William Minors.
“It was a season-best for me,” Joseph said. “I glad that was my team because it means I still got it. If I was able to train more for the 800m I would be able to run faster. It was a comfortable race for me.”
The field events saw UB finishing with the top-two positions in the Open men javelin throw event. Kendall Cooper held off Rashad Evans for the win with a throw of 47.15m (154-8 1/4). Evans had a strong day when he threw a personal best 45.98m (150-10 1/4).
Cooper said his throws could be better while Evans was happy to record two personal bests on the day.
Davia Musgrove leapt her way to a first-place victory in the Open women long jump event with a best leap of 5.08m (16-8).
“It feels good to go over five metres,” Musgrove said. “The wind fluctuated a lot during my first two jumps, so my coach told me to adjust my run which helped me.”
Lauren Stuart took first place in the open women discus throw and was the only competitor in the open women shot put throw. Her best throw in the discus was 26.28m (86-2 3/4) and 8.06m (26-5 1/4) was her best toss in the shot put.
Freshman Samuel Corbin won the Open men shot put throw with a best throw 11.39m (37-4 1/2).
