AN inmate accused of fatally stabbing another prisoner at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS) last month was charged with murder on Friday.

Senior Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux arraigned 36-year-old Diallo Williamson on charges of murder and attempted murder related to the February 1 incident.

Police alleged that Williamson, who was already awaiting trial for a separate murder case, killed 60-year-old Brody Fritz during an altercation as prisoners disposed of their night waste.

Another inmate, Nicanor Moss, sustained serious injuries during the incident and was hospitalised.

During Friday’s hearing, Williamson was not required to enter a plea and was remanded into custody. He will return to court for the presentation of a VBI on June 17th.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old male also appeared in court Friday, accused of killing 24-year-old Torieano Cummings in the Elizabeth Estates area on March 1.

Police said Cummings had just arrived at a residence near Antigua and Australia Avenue when a black Japanese vehicle pulled up and fired shots in his direction, fatally wounding him.

The teenager was also not required to enter a plea and was remanded to the adolescent block at BDOCS. He will return to court on July 30.
