A DOCTOR testified that he examined a woman the day after she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted by the father of her child in Exuma in 2024 as his trial continued.

Khethino Cadet is on trial before Justice Jeannine Weech Gomez on charges of rape and aggravated assault.

Prosecutors allege Cadet raped and assaulted a then 33-year-old woman in Exuma on August 17, 2024.

Dr Moxey testified that he examined the complainant at noon on August 18, 2024, and collected samples for a rape kit about 15 minutes later.

Dr Moxey said the complainant told him she had allegedly been penetrated anally with the defendant’s fingers.

He said he observed blood in that area during the examination.

When jurors asked whether Cadet’s DNA was found in the samples, Dr Moxey said that was a question for the prosecution because he did not receive the test results.

Dr Moxey also said the complainant had trauma to the left side of her face. He observed tenderness in that area, which he said indicated that she had been hit.

Retired Corporal Donovan Higgs testified that on August 18, 2024, he received a sexual assault kit used on the complainant and sent the samples for further analysis.

Higgs said he also went to the residence shared by the complainant and Cadet the day after the alleged incident.

He spoke with the complainant and photographed the scene.

During that period, Cadet was informed of the complaint against him and arrested.

A photograph of the complainant’s bedroom showed a dresser with all of its drawers open near the bed and an open suitcase on the floor.

Higgs said the bed had been damaged during an altercation.

Photographs of the bathroom adjoining the bedroom, the living room and the exterior of the two-storey yellow house were also shown.

Under questioning from defence attorney Keith Seymour, Higgs said he could not recall seeing any blood in the residence or on the furniture.

In response to a question from the jury, Higgs said he did not recall seeing any burnt items.
