Elaine Liverpool died peacefully at her home in the evening of Tuesday, 12th June, 2012 at age 95
Loving wife of Dr. J Alban Liverpool, who predeceased her, Elaine is survived by her son Ronald Liverpool and her, daughter, Camille, Lady Barnett and her husband, Sir Michael Barnett; two grandchildren Michela Ellis and her husband Kasimu Ellis and Viola; one great grandchild, Kamelia and her brother Dr. Ernie Marshall and his wife Patricia. Elaine, who was born in St. Vincent and The Grenadines in 1916, grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she met her husband Al Liverpool, who had migrated to Canada to join the Canadian Armed Forces. Elaine and Al married after World War II and they moved to Montreal and later to Toronto where she lived save for short periods in The Bahamas and Barbados. In her life Elaine was active in civic and community affairs affecting the lives of Canadians of Caribbean descent. She served as President of the Canadian Negro Women’s Association of Toronto and was a member of the Dr. Washington Carver Club of Halifax. Elaine will be remembered as a gracious lady with a generous heart who was the matriarch of the Liverpool family. Funeral service will be held at the Chapel at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre on Saturday, 23rd June, 2012 at 11.00am. Visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre on Friday, 22nd June, 2012 between 4pm and 8pm.
