Mr. Edmund Knowles aged 87yrs of Windermere, Florida and formerly of Long Bay Cays, South Andros peacefully passed away on Thursday, 5th February, 2014, at his son’s residence in Atlanta. Edmond served in the armed forces in WWII and later earned a B.S. Degree at Pratt Institutes and a Master’s Degree in in Industrial Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He worked as an industrial Engineer for the U.S. Government for 30 years after which he retired to Florida. He volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem and then as a leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 13 years. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Windermere, he served a a deacon, elder, and taught many bible study classes. He is survived by his wife of 62 yrs, Hortense Knowles; two sons, Robert Knowles (Deborah) of Atlanta, Georgia and Edmond Knowles of New Jersey; 3 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 2 great-grandsons; 2 sisters; Lighty Adderley of Long Bay Cays South Andros and Gloria Sturrup of Nassau, New Providence; 6 nephews; Leonard and George (Ali) Forbes, Selvyn Rolle, Kermit Lenroy of Long Bay Cays South Andros, Petty Officer Carlos Lynden and Kevin Sturrup; 5 nieces; Violet (Eleanor) Williams, Audrey Woodside, Angela Gaitor, Charlene Rolle and Shavanda Raquel Sturrup and a host of family and friends. Visitation was held on Thursday, 13th February, 2014 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida. Funeral Service was held at 11:00a.m on Friday, 14th February, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Windermere, 300 Main Street., Windermere, Florida, 34786. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Gotha, Florida.
