A funeral service for the late Elliott Gene Sawyer, age 63, of Abaco, The Bahamas, who died on Thursday, 19th November, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida, will be held at Full Gospel Assembly, Treasure Cay, Abaco, on Saturday, 5th December, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
Bishop Jonny Lowe will officiate and interment will follow in Green Turtle Cay Public Cemetery, Green Turtle Cay, Abaco.
Elliott Gene Sawyer was the last child born to Calvin and Joyce Sawyer at New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay on March 7th 1952. His siblings are Bobby, Pat and Ella.
He attended the all age school at New Plymouth and then went on to pursue his dream of becoming a chef, beginning at New Plymouth Inn under the direction of the owners/managers Ralph and Jean.
Next he was employed by Bahamas Airways at Treasure Cay airport. He then moved to Treasure Cay and worked as pastry chef at Treasure Cay Beach Hotel and then as an agent at the airport with Bahamas Air.
Elliott being no stranger to Darlene Curry, swept her off her feet and on July 2nd 1977 they were married.
Not long after he felt a yearning to return to his dream and went back to Treasure Cay Beach Hotel as assistant chef and was soon promoted to Executive Chef. During this time he attended culinary institute in New York and also trained at Rain Dancers in FLL Florida.
In 1998 he opened Treasure Cay Home Center and after retiring in 2005 began his catering business know as "Simply the Best" with Darlene by his side. Both these business are in operation today.
When Elliott was not cooking, he was outside enjoying gardening, orchids being his favorites and also watching his cockatiels.
Elliott was well known, liked and loved in the community of Treasure Cay of which he was very much a part and throughout all Abaco. His catering job served locals from Sandy Point in the south to Crown Haven in the north( including the Cays) and folks from all walks of life and Countries.
Elliott was an enthusiast, his imagination and mind was always in high gear with excitement and in love of seeking new ideas for his business. He was a person with warm passion and affection and a high love for his lovely wife, family and friends.
During the early 70's he assisted Rev Ernie DeLoach at Camp Abaco with his cooking and with fun times with the children in the playgrounds and also in Bible teaching times.
In the early 90's Elliott was diagnosed with a heart condition and then other medical ailments during the years that followed. On November 19th he went home to be with his Lord.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Darlene; brothers, Bobby and wife Adrella, Pat and wife Minerva; sister, Ella and husband Everett; brother in law, Lester and wife Una; nephews, Brock(deceased), Curtis and wife Crystal, Matthew and wife Cheryl, Andrew and wife Stephanie;
nieces, Patricia and husband Colin, Nicole and husband Troy, Betsy and husband Jimmy, Loretta and husband Dave and Jessica; grand nieces and nephews, Curtis Jr,(Brandy and Victoria), Michael, Josh(Breanna and Mia), Kyle, Christopher, Hannah, Benjamin and Dave Jr;
godchildren, Josh and Kyle Pinder, Branden Williams, LJ McIntosh, Taran Forbes, EJ Burrows, Avaard Edgecombe, Nathaniel McKinney; Aunt Shirley, Uncle, Travis and wife Peggy, Uncle Bernard and wife Virginia; numerous cousins, family and friends including Kim Bethel, Linda Torrants, Rhonda Lowe and family, Tommy and Dianne Bethel, Bob and Linda Ewing, Joe and Brenda Calihan, Gretchin McIntosh,Karen Lightbourn, Ed and Cindy Newell,Trevor and Dorothea Thompson and Sgt. Wellington Williams.
