Mr. Gerald (Jerry) Alexander Isaacs, Jr. born October 15, 1935, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 16, 2018. He was the son of Gerald Alexander Isaacs, Sr, CBE, and Ellerbee Forsythe.
In the 1950's Jerry and his siblings opened Nassau Repair Shop on Mackey Street and have successfully operated it ever since. Jerry had an entrepreneurial spirit and expanded operations at NRS to include Minute Muffler, X-Rad, and the Great Bahamian Oil Change. He spent his leisure time on the water. As a young man he built racing boats, which won him races on Lake Cunningham. He was an expert fisherman who spent weekends fishing and always wanted to share his joy of fishing and boating with whoever wanted to go. He was a lifetime member of BASRA. He was also an accomplished athlete who played cricket, baseball, and won many a tennis tournament at the Gym Tennis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his children Linda Carr and Gerald Isaacs III; grandchildren Alison Carr, Gerald Isaacs IV, Michael Catillon, and Alex Gaunlett; first wife and mother of his children, Flora Fox; his brothers Cecil (Peter) Isaacs, and Acting Chief Justice Stephen Isaacs; his sisters Theresa Moss, Rosalind Neely, and Sonia Smith; 22 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. He was pre-deceased by brothers Oswald Isaacs, George Patrick (Paul) Isaacs, and Michael Isaacs, and sister Elizabeth Albury.
His family is grateful to Dr. Cyprian Strachan for his friendship, kindness, and medical guidance.
He was an amazing and loving father to his children and grandchildren and taught them by example to be giving and loving to others. He always gave away more than he kept be it fish, tomatoes, grapefruit, peppers, plantains, etc. He was a wise and wonderful man and those who knew him can truly say they were blessed.
A gathering in honor of his life was held on Saturday, February 24, with close family and friends in attendance.
His widow Jean requests NO CALLS, no flowers, please.
