Sharing a bathroom with common peasants? Disgusting. Wow, Mr. Mitchell, every time you open your mouth you insult the voting population. What the heck is wrong with you?

If theirs keys largely contain money from Nygard, BOB non-compliant loans, 5000 per contract bribe money, at the end of the day, what are they complaining about?

Seriously I'd like to know what they're doing, I have not seen one open constituency office ever, what are they doing to earn an increase in pay! what are they doing to earn what they are currently getting.

Notice to all: if you care more about working in a fancy new building and how much you're paid than you do for the country, sit your backside home and don't run to represent anyone. We simply don't have the money to finance your fanciful idea of being a rich and famous high flying executive. Get a job in the private sector, you will NEVER be prime minister.

Boys and Girls of the Bahamas, the lesson for today is: if your employer does not pay you enough to support the lifestyle that you want, steal from him. It is ok. It is the employer's responsibility to make sure that your propensity for thiefin' is kept in check

How were these people ever elected? Seriously. These men don't need higher salaries, they need character and integrity. My daddy had eight children, he wasn't wealthy but on his small salary he paid off a mortgage and educated eight kids. Over those years of not having the wants I remember him repeating, "no one could ever point and say I stole money or sold drugs", I wonder how many of our politicians can say the same?

This is the third shameful statement coming from this man. I pray PGC dissolves parliament soon. Passing the baton is not an option.

What does Brave have to say to the thousands of Bahamians who are earning minimum wage? LESS THAN 10,000 per year. LESS THAN THE 28,000 received by a sitting MP? What is the argument for these people? Do you intend to raise their salaries too OR will you encourage them to EMBEZZLE, BRIBE and EXTORT? Hmmm?

Because he wants to take the heat of his party and perpetuate the myth that people who don't pay taxes and act in a generally dishonest way are just ordinary Bahamians hustling to get by. Good, honest hard working people of The Bahamas need to stand up and reject politicians like Gibson at the ballot box. Why do we continually elect parliamentarians who affront our intelligence? Therein lies the problem - there are too few educated Bahamians who can see through Gibson and the rest of the political elite. There are too many people who will cast their vote for a fridge and a tee shirt instead of looking at the bigger picture. This could be a great little country but it is being destroyed by politicians out to feather their own nest and that of their cronies. Sad so sad.

Moss and Rollins are shouting out now because they have nothing to lose - the ship is going down and they are attempting to distance themselves from the worst decisions of the Party in the hope that it might make them more credible and possibly attractive to a re-energized FNM in a few years' time. Neither have impressed these last two years and so I think they are wasting their time. There is nothing wrong with leadership challenges in healthy democratic parties. The PLP leadership is stitched up now with no one able to challenge the resident incumbent Perry Christie. What an absolute farce! It is really sad that at a time when the country needs a dynamic younger party leader who is not afraid to lead, the PLP is stuck with an aging politician whose leadership appears hopelessly compromised and who is more concerned with his legacy than actually taking the tough decisions that the country desperately needs to be taken. The FNM appear to be rudderless in opposition although it must be hard for Minnis with so many of the faithful still hankering for the return of Papa. I hope to God that Papa stays in retirement. He has fought the good fight, made mistakes as every leader does but he has had his time. The Bahamas cannot endure yet another Ingraham v Christie election campaign. It is time for PGC to retire along with his old friend Hubert and leave the running of the country to the best of the rest. This is where it gets worrying. Who amongst the rest can be trusted to run this country? The best true leaders in our country have no desire to enter politics for fear of being tainted by corruption and the corrupt practices of the system. This is the system that Michael Halkitis wants to see perpetuated i.e. No need for politicians to adhere to the Public Disclosure Act. Bahamas, someone has to step forward and soon to lead us through the many perils facing this small country. These are difficult times but hopefully "cometh the the hour, cometh the man"

Well said. To make matters worse, Michael Halkitis enters the debate with the ridiculous comment that politicians shouldn't be compelled to disclose their status on payment of taxes since they deserve privacy.WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Has Halkitis not heard of the Public Disclosure Act? Politicians are supposed to be leading us not bleeding us! Simply put if you don't want your financial affairs to be put up for public scrutiny then you should stay out of politics - it's that simple. No wonder the cabinets of both administrations have been unwilling to enforce the Act. No one wants to stop the gravy train. What an absolute disgrace and what a sad reflection on this country. Respect for the laws of this country MUST begin at the top. If politicians don't lead by example how can you expect the average Joe to do what is right. Michael Halkitis should hang his head in shame over that comment.

Dancing around the same subject all the time only shows what your real interest is. Bahamians are not dumb, and although this issue has come across Minister Freddy's desk time and time again from liberals, there was no reason for a press release regarding his views. He represents the people as a minister, if he wasn't a minister his views would of course be regarded as personal. A press release will cause people to read and interpret and this is not an issue for the country. Chipman was right about how Fred Mitchell should not have shared his views on LGBT rights because of the Fact that he is representing the Bahamas/Bahamians, so anything he says abroad is not looked at as him personally accepting it, it looks to others that we all accept it and that is not right or true. These PLP members are too thin skinned when their flaws are noticed and they love to blame everyone else but themselves. They forget that they were voted by the people to represent the people but seems like when they win a seat, all of that is thrown out of the window, and they focus on their personal agendas.

Here we go again. Anyone who does not share the vision or views of any Minister of the government is anti-PLP. That is total hogwash. Fred Mitchell needs to grow up. I think the majority of Bahamians share the views of Dr. Munroe and Mr. Chipman. This PLP regime just can't seem to take criticism without them interpreting it as a personal attack on them and their clueless party.

Gay having rights is not the point to what Dr. Monroe said; the point is Fred Mitchell is acting as the Foreign Minister of the Bahamas, which is an appointed position. You can't get up and speak on anything that is not the consensus word of the people, he can travel on his vacation and spend his money and do this at his leisure as Fred Mitchell.

Dr. Monroe spoke from a legal and political position on calling out Fred Mitchell. Even though as a Christian he doesn't believe in gays, His comment was legal, not spiritual. When you represent a country with an appointed position, your views shouldn't be made while on duty. So for him to call Dr. Monroe "ignorant" that is really a stretch.

Fred was elected as a member of parliament, not a Foreign Minister. When he is working as a Foreign Minister, he represent the Bahamas, so speak on Foreign issues that is pertaining to the reason why you're in Triniad and not LGBT rights. Like I said earlier, he can travel on his own time and at his own expense and do that, just like how I can speak on whatever convictions I have on my heart on my time and not on the job if I was one of your employee.

This guy tried to get nominated on convention floor for leader at the last PLP convention and couldnt even get a seconder among all those many hundreds of delegates. The PLP cannot stand him - that is why he hasn't gotten anywhere. And since the Bahamian people wont make him the legend he thinks he should be recognized as, he seeks to try to be one with stunts like these - and people fall for it hook, line and sinker every time. When children throw tantrums for attention we either ignore them, put them on timeout or smack the **** out of them. When this 50+ year old child does it, it dominates headlines.

For myself, I have said nothing about gay people. My sole point has been "Fred Mitchell" is the person holding Fred Mitchell back. Rachel Maddow is Lesbian and I love her, you know why, because she does what she's there to do, she investigates news and she reports it. Fred Mitchell still hasn't figured out what his job function is, he is far from diplomatic and he is twisted with anger. This is not a gay straight issue, this is a Fred Mitchell clean out your soul issue . Get rid of all of that bitterness and maybe people will accept you. Unfortunately, you'll never be able to mend all relationships but you may get some. I think nationbuilder hit the nail on the head when he said this dog and pony show is simply to make outsiders believe he's not PM because he's gay. It's to raise his stature in the world and has nothing to do about our little island. Erin Greene has done more to fight for LGBT rights in one day than Fred Mitchell has done a lifetime in his closet. He's simply trying to co-opt a movement that is gaining public acceptance worldwide.

His character and attitude are his problems. If he succeeds in getting on the world stage that he is so desperately shopping around for now, they will both be magnified. The world will know who he really is. And thanks to his comment about Myles Munroe who already happens to be on the world stage and loved by millions...much of the world now knows about his stink attitude. Something for PGC to ponder. Apology time.

Honestman 10 years, 9 months ago on Webshop gaming 'to be regularised by July 1'

In my view it doesn't make sense to criminalise an activity (i.e. playing numbers) that the majority of the population participates in. Like it or not numbers houses are built into the fabric of Bahamian society. I am not a gambler myself but people should have the right to gamble if they so choose. Certainly Bahamians should have the right to gamble in their own country if foreigners are allowed to. Thus, I believe the government is ultimately making the correct decision on web shops, however , I can understand why so many Bahamians will be angry at how the PLP has gone about this whole business.

In my view the PLP should have stated in their manifesto that if they came to power they would legalise web shop gambling. That is what they have always wanted to do and by all accounts the party accepted substantial campaign funding from the numbers bosses on the understanding that this is what they would do. If they had made this clear during the election campaign I don't think it would have cost them the election and the electorate would at least have been able to say that the party was being up front and honest. However, openness and integrity are not hallmarks of the PLP. The decision instead to include the promise of a referendum on the issue was typical PGC - he was thinking as a politician and not as a leader. To go to the people with the dishonest claim that his party "had no horse in the race" was lamentable and a very costly mistake for the country. Can you imagine what the REAL cost of the referendum must have been when you take into account the amount of government time spent on the matter, the cost of consultants and the loss of a day's productivity? And then when the people, seeing through PGC's duplicity, vote NO the government ignored their vote, refused to close web shops as promised and actually allowed them to flourish!!! This is why Bahamians are angry this morning - they have been taken for an absolute ride. Surely no Bahamian will ever bother to participate in a referendum again?

As I said at the top, I believe government has finally made the right decision but its dishonesty and prevarication over the issue has cost the tax payer dearly. This will be the Prime Minister's legacy and that of his party.
