Miller backs resort and tells union to ‘carry their ass’
I think Leslie Miller is a horrible excuse for a human being most of the time, but I actually agree with him on this one!
Unions have become corrupt and greedy and do not do their members any favours with their big mouths, ignorant manners and thuggish tactics. They have no one to blame but themselves. While the union is running to court while running its mouth, perhaps the laid off employees might consider going to court and suing the union for putting them in this mess.
And while we're talking smack about "foreigners" running our country, let's take a good hard look at ourselves. How many jobs do Bahamians provide for Bahamians? Soon there will be no foreign businesses left to blame as we make it increasingly hostile to conduct business in the Bahamas just so we can be big shot entitled Bahamians. Then what will we have? Nothing. Not a damn thing.

D’Aguilar is a graduate of the famed business school at Cornell University and he talks sense. He also puts him money where his mouth is and invests in various businesses. The Bahamas needs a lot more like him.

Sad when Bahamians are castigated for getting a good education, being successful in business and having something to say about the foolishness happening in this country. Black crabs in full combat mode. What a sad joke. Continue on Mr. D.

What exactly does that have to do with this Cleptocracy in existence in the Bahamas? The government is spending too much money (half is stolen) and borrowing to finance carnivals. Blaming the "owners" of the bank or foreigners is just a red herring. Keep looking for it though.

Bottled water suppliers in 100% business rise
These two bottled water production companies, Aquapure and Chelsea's Choice, claim in the marketing of their grossly over-priced products that no one in their right mind would drink the water produced by the government's Water & Sewerage Corporation. Then, when a hurricane comes, like Matthew right now, the public finds that the inability of these companies to ramp up production to meet the greatly increased demand results in serious price gouging and bottled water shortages at the usual distribution outlets. The Aquapure and Chelsea truck crews are underpaid opportunists who make a small fortune for themselves in a time of crisis by selling their product to the highest bidder with cash on the street. Their respective employers are not too bothered as long as they get their minimum cut of the cashflow based on the number of bottles sold by their truck crews. Neither company is interested in delivering bottled water for coupons in a time of crisis to their loyal year round customers. Why should they be, they have already received the cash for the coupons and now have an opportunity to boost their cashflow. The loyal year-round customers who hold the coupons already paid for get royally screwed whenever a hurricane heads our way. My entire neighbourhood, and no doubt many other neighbourhoods, have gone without this week's expected home delivery of water simply because we are stupid loyal year-round customers who take delivery against presentation of coupons that we long ago paid for. My spouse and I are so vex about this penalizing of loyal customers that we have decided to buy imported water once our current supply of coupons runs out. And the truck crew that delivers our bottled water won't be getting the generous cash gift they have grown accustomed to receiving at Christmas time. Government needs to give serious consideration to introducing legislation that protects the public from bottled water shortages and price gouging in times of a crisis, like the one facing us with the approach of Hurricane Matthew!

Coca Cola distributes water and food in Grand Bahama
Coca-Cola's token gesture here in distributing water is appreciated of course, but our government should nevertheless proceed with its plans to introduce a special sin tax on all of the so called "sugar-loaded drinks", whether produced locally or imported. The special sin tax on such drinks should be set at a rate equal to or greater than the sin tax rate levied on cigarettes. It also should be in addition to any other duties, excise taxes, VAT, etc. that currently apply to these unhealthy addictive sugar-loaded products. Most of us know that consuming too much candy, too much ice-cream or too much of most other high sugar content products is bad for our health. But the producers of these other sugar-loaded products differ from the likes of Coca-Cola in that they do not aggressively and callously target their unheathy and highly addictive products at our children and young adults. Our Minister of Health (Gomez) should be pressing for this new special sin tax to be implemented at the earliest possible time!

That is why they do this. Carbonated corn syrup drinks, like coke, are the tobacco of the 21st century. If they were really charitable, it wouldn't look like a publicity event; which it is. Why call the media to be charitable? The 3000 bucks it cost them to make this water will come out of the marketing budget and be worth many times that.

ANY DAY NOW WE EXPECT THE LIKES OF CRAIG FLOWERS AND SEBAS BASTIAN TO ANNOUNCE TOKEN DONATIONS OF A FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS TO THE RELIEF EFFORT WHEN THEY CAN AFFORD, AND RIGHTFULLY SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY, MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM THE MANY MANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS THEY TAKE OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES EACH AND EVERY YEAR!

Miller: We shouldn’t have brought in foreigners
Mr Miller,
In the US, many power companies have agreements to bring in help from other areas (better known as "foreigners") The Edison Electric Institute published a paper on the mutual aid process, and you may read it here:
http://www.eei.org/issuesandpolicy/elec…
I hope providing a link to a foreign website doesn't hurt your sensibilities.
No single utility has the capability to quickly restore power when the entire system is offline. That's why they agree to work together in times of disaster. If they all wanted the jobs to go to untrained locals, the systems would take months to come back online.
Your idea of having Bahamians do the work just for the sake of having them be Bahamian is ludicrous. The time for training those Bahamians was long ago and it would have cost you millions of dollars to not only train them, but to keep them employed while you waited for a disaster.
Your protectionism and that of others in The Bahamas explains much about what is wrong with your country.
I'm sure those that volunteered for the assignment to assist all Bahamians would rather be at home with their families rather than suffer the whining of a short-sighted fool.
Would you also refuse monetary donations and aid from the US and people like me that gave to help when asked?
Just when I think it's time to reconsider The Bahamas as a place for investment and to visit, I'm reminded why I stopped coming.

Sir Franklyn ‘shock’ at gas pump rip-off claim
The BBSQ is a solution looking for a problem; that simple. Of course there is no problem so they need to manufacture one. I heard an interview with them the other day where they clarified that 50% of the pumps tested were either over or under a set +- level. They could all have been dispensing more!!!! The person being interviewed was talking about expanding this organization to over 100 inspectors......plus support staff. This is where the VAT money is going, among other things, and why the Bahamas is being downgraded. I am sure it is all well intentioned but clearly unaffordable. Is anyone really worried that Coca-Cola or Sands is cheating them? Worried enough to pay VAT for it? Wake up Bahamas!!! Once you create an organization, it wants to grow and grow and grow. Sir Franklyn Wilson and his company are doing just fine without cheating you out of some gas. BBSQ needs to release all their findings or risk being tainted by this misinformation campaign.

He's right. Swindling out Bay-Street-Boys the Bay Street Boys. Our first Prime Minister put white collar criminality on a new level -- drug running. It isn't a racist statement. Post-independence politicians can't keep their peckers in their pants and their hands out of the money jar. That's the God's truth. It seems that the slave mentality still prevails and prevents enlightenment, altruism and patriotism. You are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

THE APPROPRIATE U.S. RESPONSE WILL EVENTUALLY BE: Cease operation of pre-clearance facilities in the Bahamas; issue a directive for all U.S. banking institutions to cease direct and intermediary correspondent banking relationships with all Bahamian based financial institutions whether resident or non-resident for Bahamas exchange control purposes; restrict the number of education visas granted to Bahamians and residents of the Bahamas; introduce a tariff on all goods exported to the Bahamas via U.S. cargo ports sufficient to cover the added national security costs incurred by U.S. taxpayers as a result of the increased risks of terrorism for Americans (especially cruise ship visitors) caused by the dimwitted corrupt Bahamian government; limit access of Bahamas based passenger carrying airlines to U.S. airports and limit air lift from U.S. airports to all airports in the Bahamas; significantly increase both the requirements and costs for Bahamians and other residents of the Bahamas to obtain B1/B2 visitor visas; suspend Fweddy Boy Mitchell's diplomatic standing in the U.S.; introduce a tariff on all goods imported to the U.S. via Freeport cargo shipment facilities owned and operated by "privately owned" agents of the government of mainland China; significantly increase foreign aid and funding to Cuba to expand hotel and cruise ship facilities; support domestic and international banking facilities in Cuba with suitable restrictions on Cuban based financial institutions engaging in such activities with Bahamian based financial institutions; etc. etc. etc. IF YOU ARE FOOL ENOUGH TO POKE THE U.S. IN THE EYE, YOU DESERVE THE EVENTUAL CONSEQUENCES!
