We have a policy in place now ................ all persons of Haitian heritage born in The Bahamas PRIOR to 1985 can apply for regularization. I am sure the Bahamian government has honoured that agreement with the Haitian government. There should not be any more of that generation without status in The Bahamas. The post-1985 ones have to claim their Haitian citizenship. Fred has nothing to justify to the United Nations or Amnesty or the Pope.

Mr Moss conveniently ignore Haitian constitution of 2012 that grants naturalization to those persons after living in Haiti for five years. HAITIANS CAN NOW HOLD DUEL CITIZENSHIP UNDER HC 2012 convers to HC 1987 which did not allow nothing except native born to two native born Haitians or 2nd generation abroad!
What he also failed to tell is that Haitian Constitution 1987 made 3rd generation children born to Haitian who were not native born (inside or outside of haiti) people stateless. According to him Haitians are only made by being born in Haiti to two parents who themselves are native born in Haiti. . .are haitian only. . .whether in Haiti or anywhere else in the world! He is correct under HC 1987. This is not the case under HC 2012! Those entiled to apply for Bahamian citizenship that are deported with parents can return and claim their right to apply for that honor. HC allows them same returnees to keep their Haitian naturalization as long as they return to Haiti within three years. . .over three years they lose that honor!!!
Either moss don't know dittly or the rest of the world. . .including UNHRC got it wrong. . .they are sending them back to Haiti. . .and the government in Haiti is taking them back!! Further, Haiti has ratified them same UN treaties that they are saying we signed to tell us we are doing wrong. . .I confused here! Haiti has already adjusted its Constitution to meet those obligations. . .THERE IS NO SUCH CREATUTRE AS A STATELESS HAITIAN!!!!
Ya mean to tell me that 3rd generation persons born to two Haitian parents are not Haitian citizens except they are born in Haiti proper? And even if one of them non-Haitians go back to Haiti. . .wait five years. . .have some chirrins . . .them kids are not Haitians? THIS IS CONTRARY TO UN RIGHT TO MIGRATION AND RETURN TO THEIR NATIVE LAND!!!! THAT UN TREATY DEFINDED NATIVE LAND AS THE LAND OF PARENTAL DECENT!! DUH!

AND YOUR POINT IS?? THE AVERAGE WAIT IN CANADA AND THE USA IS. . .YES 7 TO 10 YEARS!! AND IN THE US THEY WILL NOT COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION IF YOU ARE IN THE USA!!
THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW TELLING YOU THAT THE SLACK DAYS ARE OVA. I WORKED IN THE USA FOR OVER TEN YEARS. . .ON WORK PERMIT. . .WHEN MY 4TH WORK PERMIT WAS UP THEY TOLD ME. . .WE ARE NOT GOING TO RENEW IT ANY MORE!!! I WORKED FOR OVER TEN YEARS. THE FIRST APPLICATION I MADE I HAD TO WAIT ONE YEAR WHILE THEY CHECKED IF THERE WERE ANY AMERICAN WHO COULD DO MY JOB!!
EVEN THOUGH I WAS PAYING FICA, STATE TAX, INCOME TAX, SOCIAL SECURITY, I WAS NOT ENTITELED TO ANY FREE THING EXCEPT FREE DENTAL AND EYE CARE!! AND I GOT NO TAX RETURN EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN THE 35% TAX BRAKET!
OUR CHILDREN COULD NOT GO TO GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS SO EDUCATION WAS PAID FOR IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS.
CHILDREN HAD TO HAVE AN I-20 AND H-1 VISAS TO ATTEND SCHOOL. . .RENEWABLE EACH YEAR! THEY HAD TO TRAVEL WITH THIER I-20 FORMS WITH THEM OR FACE ARREST DEPORTATION!
I HAD TO PRESENT A COPY OF MY WORK PERMIT EACH YEAR TO HUMAN RESOURCES. ONE YEAR THE COMPANY DID NOT GET MY WP ABOUT THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE OLE ONE EXPIRED! I WAS PULLED IN THE OFFICE AND TOLD IF THE RENEWAL IS NOT HERE BY THE YEAR'S END. . .DO NOT COME BACK TO WORK! YOU ALL PLAYING WITH THIS THING. . .THIS IS NOT A GAME. . .THIS IS FOR THE SAFE KEEPING OF OUR NATION FOR OUR CHILDREN. . .NOT HAITI'S CHILDREN!
THOSE HAITIANS WHO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE HERE. . .I too will fight for them to get that right. . .but those who do not . . .I WILL FIGHT AGAINST ANY "PUSH" TO WEAKEN THIS NATION ANY FURTHER!

Mitchell challenges private sector over work permits
Minister Mitchell is being painted as a villain by so many people, both here and abroad, but I want him to know that there are a lot of Bahamians who fully support the work that he is doing in the Ministry of Immigration and will continue to stand behind him as we believe that he carries out his duties fairly, honestly, without prejudice or a hidden agenda. It has been a while since I was the Administrator for an offshore company with an office here in Nassau but I can attest to the fact that some of these international companies try their best to “put one over” on the Government when it comes to work permits for the expatriates that they want to bring in. I remember several instances in which my former employers did this but one, in particular, stands out. In this case, the company had already brought in two expats as tourists, and they were already working at the office, but yet the Assistant Vice President continued to interview Bahamians for the positions which they knew had already been filled. I was so frustrated that they were making a mockery of the whole immigration process and that they actually made jokes about our Bahamianization policy. To add insult to injury, Bahamians who should have been promoted to the two positions advertised in the first place, were told to train these “experienced and educated” expats. However, the expats were making at least twice the salary of the Bahamians who were training them, and were also receiving perks like tuition for their kids, gas and vacation allowances, and expense accounts to boot. The Bahamians were not! The expats working in my former company had a joke that they would tell from time to time, especially when other expats were visiting. “A woman went to the foodstore to buy some items and decided to add brains to her list of purchases. As she checked out the prices of the brains, she noticed the different prices: American brains - $0.25/lb., Canadian brains - $0.60/lb., English brains - $0.45/lb., Chinese brains - $0.10/lb., French brains - $0.50/lb., German brains - $0.35/lb., Bahamian brains - $25.00/lb. The woman was astonished at the high cost of the Bahamian brains and asked the Manager why there was such a disparity. The Manager, who was a foreigner himself, gleefully replied that the Bahamian brains cost so much because it was extremely difficult to find them anywhere. I still do not know why those expats came to work in this country, as they thought so little of its people. In that particular case, there were Bahamians who were qualified and capable of filling those “vacancies” but they were denied the opportunity to do so, and I am pretty sure that this type of thing is still happening today. So, Minister Mitchell, thank you for standing up for the Bahamian people. It has been a very long time since anyone did! I

Comrade your argumentation only goes to acknowledge that it's not about a discrimination against anything Haitian thing, by the natives but has be about lots more? Time put that failed argument to bed, that we dislike the Haitian people.
I don't even hate ""KC" Freddy but a long visit up Sandilands does comes in my head. Just not sure if the flash in my head is suggesting a psychiatric or geriatric stay? How old is da "KC" anyways?

That's funny. So what powers do immigration officers have? Only to give out passports and residency stamps?

Seems like the ones doing the "intimidating" are the ones calling for a revolt against our government. Knowing that this man (Fred Smith) once advocated for a bloody revolution in the Bahamas and is now gaining in popularity and leadership within the Haitian community-he has to be taken very seriously.

Don Anthony if you and Fred Smith believes so much in free speech, Why did Fred get bent out of shape when some showed Ku Klux Klan posters, in connection with him.? But it was all right with you all when he referred to the Bahamas as Nazi Germany. In you all view which is worse . ?

I do agree the more they talk, the more the Bahamians will learn what their intentions are. this has all been good for the Bahamian people to know what they think and how they feel about the Bahamas, after we have welcomed them into our Country. their history shows them to be violent people. they gained their independence thru hacking people to death. They can not deny that it is their history. and Fred Smith is stroking their violent nature. Bahamians be aware.

Why would someone carry a copy of a work permit? Do you carry a copy of your driver's license when you are driving or do you always have the original in your wallet ??? The permit and the drivers license are the same size. If you are talkin about the big green paper they are done with, which means that this man had false documents on his possession. He should be sent directly to Fox Hell!

He (Mr. Mitchell), likely wants them to responsible with what they say to their public; not to silence them. Nobody should have to decode and decipher Mr. Smith's words then conclude whether he was serious or just being colorful. I guess all of the other inflammatory remarks made by this man regarding Genocide, ethnic cleansing etc. was playful? Free speech is one thing, reckless use of it is quite another. He has crossed many lines with no consequences, he should definitely be reprimanded at the very least for his ongoing tirade against our country.

Any threat to the security of the Bahamas is worth investigating. Call it what you want but inciting people to revolt against the Bahamas government is a threat, this is way past freedom of speech. I think the only issue you and Don Anthony have is that finally a Haitian(s) may have to be responsible for their action. Imagine that...?
Also, this has nothing to do with his heritage, if he could prove he was a Bahamian since BC, it would not matter. A threat is a threat. It would have to be investigated. A real democracy would call this a threat to Homeland security. Only in the Bahamas would people entertain this recklessness as "freedom of speech" until its too late.

There is a simple solution to all of this foolishness folks: All right thinking, proud Bahamians should just simply boycott the guardian radio. So if they can manage solely on marketing money from dem people dem, then so be it. But the problem is that Bahamians simply do not pull together when it comes to important issues such as this immigration problem. I for one don't even have the time to cater to bullshit. If the Bahamas belongs to Bahamians then it is time for Bahamians to get together and take their country back: Stop hiring illegals. Stop taking bribery money from Haitians. Stop this party loyalty crap and vote for the party that is sincere about getting rid of this problem for good! Do what the Haitians are doing in this country, come together for a cause.

"Furthermore Fred Mitchel's policy requiring employers to provide insurance and housing for immigrant workers is discriminatory."
I believe this was for domestics. And it's not discriminatory. In the US if someone sponsors another to come and live they have to provide proof that they, and not the government, will support them. And now that everyone has to be insured. I am sure that is also required. This is not a new concept. It should have always been in place.

The government has two weeks to adopt these measures or else What?!?! What additional damage can these international pretenders do to the Bahamas that Fred Smith and Louby Georges have not foolishly done already? On the point of embarrassment … Really??? Embarrassing for whom – that class of boushey Bahamians who claim a monopoly on thought and civility??? What IS embarrassing are leaders with no backbone who cower in a corner each time international pretenders look at them sideways.
Emac 9 years, 9 months ago on Commission asks Bahamas government to act on mistreatment claims

The problem we face here is that when illegals enter the Bahamas' borders they become the responsibility of the state. The reality is that the Bahamian people CANNOT afford to meet the basic needs of the huge amount of illegals that enter our country. It takes money to house them, fed them and make sure that each get proper medical attention. I too agree that illegals should be treated humanely? But define being treated humanely? Should we have a limousine pick them up from the riggetty boat that they used to sail through rough waters to get to the Bahamas? Should we offer them a five course meal upon arrival at the Detention Centre? Give em bed and breakfast? The cold fact is the Bahamian people CANNOT afford to tend to this magnitude in the way that is demanded by these so called human rights group.
You have a certain group that is complaining but none of them is giving alternatives. I have never read an article where those who are complaining about the treatment of immigrants, go into their pockets, write a cheque and give it to the Bahamian people to defray the cost of attending to these illegals. I would also bet my bottom dollar that the Bahamians that are complaining that the Bahamas Immigration is being inhumane are the first ones that would leave this country if some outbreak occurs or a highly contagious disease hit our shores. They would probably be the first to complain about the government NOT protecting the borders or not protecting Bahamians.
The hardcore fact is that the Bahamas is not America or Canada. These countries have the resources to deal with illegals "humanely". The Bahamas, on the other hand, already has many BAHAMIANS who can't even afford to live in the conditions that are being demanded by these so called human rights organizations. Where is the balance? Who is making contributions to the Bahamas to help take care of these uninvited illegals? What is being done to address the problems of stopping the many Haitians from leaving their country in the first place, so that they don't have to deal with "inhumane" treatment. Is it humane to take a one year old child on an over crowded boat to sail across treacherous seas? Who is the real perpetrator of committing inhumane acts? Isn't it the Haitian government? If you are gonna question the Bahamas government about inhumane treatment, then ya better continue your questioning down south.

Do you know what the real issue is with this whole immigration thing? HAITIANS-Let's face it. The illegal Haitians are making it bad for the Bahamians of Haitian origin, who can rightfully apply to become residents or citizens. But I don't feel sorry for a lot of these so called Haitian Bahamians, because they are the very ones that hide and support the boat loads of Haitian that come into this country illegally. So on one hand they are complaining that they are being over looked and are not allowed to integrate into society and on the other hand, they break all of the laws of the Bahamas by aiding and abetting the boat criminals who sneak into our shores during the wee hours of the morning. To top it all of, many of them get into marriage arrangements with these illegals, some with criminal backgrounds, and they are involved with other serious criminal activities that threaten the security of the Bahamas. Many of the young Bahamian young men that are of Haitian origin are a part of the gun smuggling racketeer. I am not saying that Bahamian young men are saints, but that's another story.
The other thing is this: Why in the frig you wanna be so biggetty in other people's country any way? You would think that if you are in a country illegally you would lay low and not be a bother to society. You would at least show some concern for that country you are dwelling in illegally, by NOT over burdening it's people with trailer loads of children. JESUS-These people are the most ungodly people in the world, they are misers in every sense of the word. I could never support a people that are so ungrateful and mean spirited and BIGGITTY like the Haitian people. YOU CANNOT CLAIM WHAT WAS NEVER YOURS!
So the nagging question is, how do these "Haitian-Bahamians" expect to get the respect from the Bahamas government without first bearing allegiance to the country that they want to be a part of? SMFT.
