A basic human right is not that people should have to get water from a pump, but a basic human right is that people should have communities where water is at their homes. We cannot in this Bahamas still have people living in homes without water.

I blame all. The Government should have done better, however the people by now must know what 6ft means and how to social distance. Many videos i saw people were unable to maintain their distance and seem to not understand a mask is to go over their mouth and nose and not their chin. At some point we all need to accept responsibility.

“We did not identify the exact need for extra budgetary allocations and there is speculation that it was fueled more by the demand and requests for economic stimulation than by any real needs on the ground,” the report said.

The above can be said for every single government agency and ministry. We hire simply for votes and to give people some sort of income. 80% of civil service are not needed.

Not sure why the focus on Beaches and Parks. Its impossible for a ministry to exceed their budget expense without full cooperation of the Ministry of Finance.

They seriously want us to believe that for 3 years straight a ministry was able to blow its budget by 10's of millions and nobody stopped it? Hubert Minnis wasnt aware? The Minister of Finance wasnt aware? The FS wasnt aware? Shenandon Cartwright went rogue and did this all on his own.

I suspect this was dropped to kill the carnival story Why havent we seen the report from the NSA?

The administration got off to a great start dont blow it with politicking

This matter was probably dropped so that cancellation of all these contracts can have a very thin veneer of legitimacy. PLP supporters are waiting in the wings for these very same contracts.

In addition to corrupt elected officials, we are having to contend with decades of corrupt senior civil servants all the way up to permanent secretaries in some instances.

It would be very hard to deny just how unfit to Govern they all are. Lock Stock and barrel. The whole "look here what we found" is sleight of hand, a distraction, doomed to be repeated by the next set of elected pillagers.

This administration did not get off to a promising start. There are many horrible characters disguised as individuals that have this country's best interest as a priority, but all of it is self-interest. The deflection-purposed reporting and continual politicizing of every facet of our society are ridiculous. The three-month spending is outrageous (entourage-laden trips all over the world that seem more like bucket list voyages), and conflict of interest appointments are not improving the way of life in this country.

SP 2 years, 11 months ago on 818 new cases of COVID-19

A record number of cases for a single day in The Bahamas. 818 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and we still have Jan 10th holiday that will unquestionably turn out as a super spreader date for the country.

My prediction is by Jan 30th the Bahamas will have 1000 new cases daily and the hospital will be over-run with covid infected patients.

The proof is undeniably in the pudding, the "New Day" government made a major blunder by removing too many restrictions way too fast resulting in our current mess which has also not gone unnoticed by the CDC.

Now they need to think out of the box and move fast to find new ways of containing the wildfire virus outbreak especially with essential workers BEFORE the next deadly variant is manifested, which would overwhelm and possibly collapse the already strained health care system and lead to an uncontrolled shut down of the tourism sector.

The cruise and airline industries are already quickly grinding to a halt with thousands of staff unable to work due to covid infections, leading to unprecedented numbers of cancellations and millions of travelers already stranded around the world.

If a solution is not found FAST, the entire travel industry will collapse leaving tourist-dependent economies like the Bahamas and Caribbean "dead in the water" again! Billions of dollars would be lost in record time, unemployment would soar, and crime would be off the charts as more and more already desperate people fall below the poverty line and are forced into a life of crime for survival.

Given the history of government "thinking out of the box" and "moving quickly", the immediate future does NOT look promising.

tribanon 2 years, 11 months ago on Govt approved $1m to support Bahamas Pavilion and 'presence' in Dubai

Why is the Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Latrae Rahming, telling us, the Bahamian people, what was budgeted for this ridiculously outlandish event rather than telling us the actual total cost of this most lavish and squandering event? Is he doing so because they failed to keep track of the actual costs, which no doubt greatly exceeded the budgeted amount?

Also, it's unseemly that Rahming would try justify our financially strapped country participating to such a great pretentious extent in this very costly Dubai extravaganza by basically saying the last FNM government did it so now we get to do it too. Clearly Latrae Rahming doesn't have too much upstairs!

Poor, down-trodden and struggling Bahamians are being played as fools by this Davis-led PLP administration. The spendthrift political elite are unabashedly living an ostentatious and extravagant life-style at the expense of the vast majority of Bahamians. And to think our financially strapped country has public school facilities and public health facilities that are starved of desperately needed financial resources.

Make no mistake about it, participating as it did in this most costly Dubai event was a disgracefully cruel act committed by the Davis-led PLP administration against the interests of the vast majority of suffering Bahamians.

Pintard is quoted in another Tribune article as having said: “We are committed to building a country that’s not steeped in political tribalism but believes that when Bahamians collaborate, we can produce Bahamian exceptionalism and excellence."

But Pintard's real message is that he's only too happy to be able to assist in building a society steeped in political nepotism to produce a tight-knit elitist Bahamian ruling class grounded in exceptionalism and excellence."

And as the vast majority of much less fortunate Bahamians know only too well, there are now so many among the elitist political ruling class sucking heavily on the public purse for token salaries and other benefits that there's very little left in the kitty these days to fund all of the things our society so desperately needs, like upgraded and new public schools, a much better public health system, etc., etc.

A much smaller Senate or no Senate at all, combined with a 50% reduction in the number of our MPs and a 50% reduction in our cabinet ministers, would go a long ways to cutting away the layers of unnecessary, most wasteful and very costly fat we have in our government today. But instead, the corrupt Davis led government is about to, if it has not done so already, approve a significant increase in salaries and other benefits for all parliamentarians.

And guess who will be getting much higher tax bills for the generosity these parliamentarians bestow on themselves? That's right...none other than the already over-burdened and downtrodden taxpayers like you and me!

@birdiestrachan...what does "supposedly" being high on any intellectual scale, have to do with common sense and tangible reality. The cost of food is extraordinarily arduous...plain and simple (that fact is not political); however, your deflective diatribe is.

The "rich people" and "businesses" are able to purchase breadbasket items, without being concerned about where additional funds for other bills will be found.

You, a PLP propagandist calling out a FNM propagandist, is the proverbial "pot calling the kettle black". All of you are insensitive to the plight of the destitute in this country...as you are afforded appointments and other financial opportunities on the backs of the hardworking taxpaying Bahamians not in the political-clique.

The politicians are just squandering the VAT money and looking for more.
