"The Bahamas government shares the same interest as many other creditors."

While this may be true, other creditors have not had the personal guarantee of the Prime Mister of Bahamas that they will impartial mediators in the dispute.

The Government can declare itself as either a creditor or a impartial mediator. It cannot be both.

If the government really wanted to have this sorted out, and wasn't trying to undermine Sarkis, they would simply withdraw their winding up petition!

This may level the negotiation playing field for all concerned.

Obviously they have other motives.

When have you ever heard such BS about the "contractor" being so involved; especially when it was the contractors failure to meet schedule and quality that has created this whole situation.

It's taken months for those that are behind this to achieve this takeover. It didn't just come about in the last 45 days. Been in the works for at least 6 months.

Well played, but very devious and criminal in nature.

If the unthinkable happens, and Mr. Izmirlian is "pushed aside" by the involuntary winding up conspiracy, I do not believe that the hotels, who are part of Baha Mar, would still be interested in doing business with whomever takes over the project from Mr. Izmirlian. The hotels negotiated agreements that took a long time to complete, and no doubt Mr. Izmirlian's zeal, vision, and gravitas, played a large part in building the relationships with the various hotel groups, to the point that they finally were confident enough in Baha Mar to make their various commitments. Their belief in the integrity of the Bahamas government must have been severely shaken by the petty minded and unbelievable treatment being dished out to Mr. Izmirlian.

If Baha Mar were to be left in the hands of CCA, CEXIMB and the Bahamas government, does anyone seriously think that the participating hotel chains would carry on as if it was "business as usual"? They would all bail out, and that would leave the Baha Mar project with little or no chance of ever succeeding.

The entrepreneur that dreams the dream, and labours for 13 years to bring the dream to 97% completion, absolutely, and undeniably, remains an indispensable ingredient in the developments' eventual success.

Bahamian_in_London 9 years, 3 months ago on UPDATED: Rosewood bids to quit Baha Mar as govt argues for wind up petition

This is the start of the end.

It was sadly inevitable when the PLP stopped chapter 11 being recognised by the supreme court and prevented the debtor in possession financing being approved, as well as failing to pay foreign workers.

It doesn't matter if the building is complete, the Government's and the Chinese will have control of an empty shell, with no one willing to operate the hotels.

It was so obvious this would happen, yet they persisted to follow their own selfish and ego driven agenda. Shame on you Christie and you're gang of hacks. You have failed this country.

Rosewood has probably given thought to the serious conflicts of interest that both Christie and Maynard-Gibson have in their maliciously meddlesome involvement in the Baha Mar dispute, including the grossly unfair favouritism shown by the corrupt Christie-led PLP government towards the Chinese general contract and Chinese lender, and decided its better to explore opportunities opening up in Cuba. The anti-foreigner sentiment of 'Freddy Boy' Mitchell and 'Bumpy Head Shameless' Shane Gibson no doubt also helped Rosewood decide that Bahamas is no longer a suitable place to do business.

Abaconian 9 years, 3 months ago on Mitchell slammed for ‘disrespect’ to women politicians

I'm not sure it was wise for Mr. Pintard to accuse Mitchell of male chauvinism. It's symptomatic of the unnecessary punch and judy politics of this country. What is clear, however, is that Mitchell is not a fan of Ms. Butler-Turner, and as arrogant as Mitchell is, I suspect the real reason behind his attack on Ms. Butler-Turner is not because she is female, rather it is because she is a THREAT to him and his party. She's tough, determined and not afraid to speak out (or slap out). All jokes aside, Ms. Butler-Turner seems to posses certain leadership qualities that are lacking from other members of the FNM. Mitchell will continue to try and suppress her forward momentum.

So the AG couldn't even file the winding up order correctly. Truly the pinnacle of her profession to represent the Bahamian people.

lkalikl 9 years, 3 months ago on Obie: Drop resort wind-up petition

The fact is that they were never mediating objectively in the first place. Now that someone in the administration has understood the scale of the calamity, they want to try actual mediation for the first time. They are only saying this because the reality of collusion with CCA and CEXIM is about to slam the government in the face in the local and international media and our reputation, as a serious FDI center, will be seriously tarnished.

The government of the Bahamas has exposed itself to charges of collusion and corruption and Baha Mar will take this all the way in the courts unless a settlement that they can agree to is put forward. In siding with the Chinese so strongly, the government has already made a critical mistake and the truth is going to come out. Heads need to roll. This entire government should resign. Failing that, we need a full Commission of Inquiry and MPs need to go to jail for their corruption and collusion with the Chinese. We need Interpol or the Americans to investigate if undeclared payments were made to senior politicians in other jurisdictions through shell companies or other fronts. It is time to get serious as the bribes would have been in the millions for the top ranking government personnel.

The government of the Bahamas is the only entity in the country that can and has put our sovereignty at risk through this debacle. Their exposure to Chinese interests is patently obvious now. The PLP once sold us to drug lords. Now, they are selling us to the Chinese government at the risk of damaging our relations with the Americans. There is nothing wrong with doing business with China, but there is something very wrong with our politicians being in thrall to China.

John Buchanan, it makes perfect sense if you want to show both existing and potential foreign investors that this is not the place to be. Why do you think Rosewood really pulled out for. It was not the Bankruptcy proceedings.

Man your hate for Izmirlian is clouding your judgment.

Sadnation 9 years, 2 months ago on Baha Mar staff ‘likely’ to be paid until $21m runs out

It's a sad nation that penalizes the foreigners who are trying to help get the property open by being so disrespectful in their public outcry of "who cares about them" attitude. Why any foreigner, regardless of their country, would want to visit such a country where their senior leadership is so corrupt and makes decisions based on race is beyond me. Unfortunately, they're only concern is to become wealthy on the backs of their own citizens and keep their own family members in power. God help them.

asiseeit 9 years, 2 months ago on Baha Mar staff ‘likely’ to be paid until $21m runs out

This will cost all Bahamians as this money is not the Governments to do as it pleases with. Baha Mar will sue the pants off of government and we the People will be the ones that pay. This government is a slave master whipping its slaves who just happen to be the citizens of the Bahamas. We will be paying for this for many decades to come. Isn't it great to have such upstanding individuals as supposed leaders?
