Ombudsman urged to resolve bank disputes
An Ombudsman is way overdue in the country. The really isn't any true Consumer Protection as far as the Banks are concerned. To bad it took so much pain and suffering for Mr and Mrs Spicer to bring this issue to light. These Canadian Banks enjoyed huge profits for many years and when the market got soft they continued to capitalize on the peoples throughout the Caribbean.

Ombudsman urged to resolve bank disputes
The Banks in the Bahamas have been abusing their customers for too long. The Ombudsman is a consumer service, running in most civilized countries. The public needs to make their voices heard on this issue. Alone you cannot fight the banks. A petition is now online asking for this very thing and is approaching 700 in just 6 working days. Please make your voice heard.

Prior to and or accompanying office the govt must absolutely push for the creation of Senator Jerome Gomez Consumer Protection Agency. Prevention is better than surgery. These cases should not even get to the international level as we have some 5,000 Bankers and some 300 banks as an international Financial Business nation. A few should not jepordise the many. Many cases abound of unfairness including the already mentioned Spicers, another one with the contractor by the bank and the other cited as myth where allegedly some bank advertised in the press and sold a repossessed house with the people still living in it. Truly awful for these stories to go any further.

We desperately need an Ombudsman. The Central Bank is not doing its job. It issues the License and then goes to sleep.

birdiestrachan,
Not a lie at all: The Bahamas is the only place I have - with my own eyes watched candidates for MP pay voters cash for a vote. The Bahamas is the only place I have seen Police turn loose a criminal for cash. The Bahamas is the only place I have seen a poor man become MP, and be a multi-millionaire 5 years later on an MP's pay? You are a coward, and a liar to try to deny the truth, and defend the indefensible.

Also GOD ALMIGHTY find a way to stop China from eating, handling, filthy disgusting unknown wild animals that has caused not only this pandemic but every pandemic of late. (bird-flu, SARS)etc. To GOD be the glory.

The matters that President Trump boast of the most has come tumbling down on his head and all around him.
The Stock market and the unemployment numbers.
There is a lesson in this for the world.
May the Good Lord have mercy on us all and may we all learn what the lessons are.
God is a good God and he loves us all. bottom line

The one fallacy I see in all the reporting is people projecting that the time of discovery is indicative of a recent infection. Someone infected because people didnt obey the curfew
The truth is we could have had people walking around with headaches, coughing and interacting with colleagues and the general public from way back in January thinking they just had a slight cold. Its possible we could have 5000 people walking around who were infected before the curfew which was only started less than a week ago. Thats both probable and possible.
Under the above scenario the curfew only prevents the 5000 from becoming 100,000 but the 5000 would have been a result of not having a system of wide spread testing from back in January/February. Ten people are currently discovered not because people were on the beach on Saturday...they were infected because we had no system to determine who was infected.
I keep repeating this example, on March 3rd the Minister of Tourism said they were in talks to bring thousands of persons to Nassau from cancelled conventions in Europe. Doesn't that seem crazy now?
. I'm saying this to point out what the thinking was just 3 weeks ago. We were simply late, all of us, me included, that's why we have 10 cases today

PM suggests more restrictions on movement could come
Please use some common sense before going into a panic! If the PM issues more orders it may tighten things up further but he's fully aware that people have to eat and will make provisions for that. His primary goal is to protect all residents and if the current rules are not working then he has to clamp down. Blame those who are breaking the rules not the PM.

It's very easy for Sir Wilson to discourage Government from helping people. He is Rich. Maybe he should help Bahamians by helping those displaced by Dorian.

Hie is right we can not just print more money.
Every dollar must be carefully watched at this point.
BPL must be sold into private hands immediately tho to stop more drainage in terms of the public purse having to prop it up tho.
And we need a massive country wide agricultural program to grow what tourist dollars can not do (pay for import food). Seriously, every community, every parish needs to start a community gardens now given the lead times from planting to harvest. And we need much more solar. We are so behind on both fronts I hope people and government will rise to the challenge and not go the easy route of print more money, deplenish the hard currency and then have total collapse like Zimbabwe. It is that serious folks. This country needs to get it together now!
Atlantis and Bahama Mar will not reopen in mid May! And if they did no one would be there in any event! We need to be prepared for 12-18 months of tourism shut down and start acting accordingly.

an important and yet crucial fact to note is that if the COVID-19 virus is not already here in Long Island, the only vulnerable means by which it can come into Long Island is through the weekly mail boat services coming in to Long Island from Nassau. The crew members would have interacted with their families and communities in Nassau, albeit, to a limited extent.
I suggested to the Government, the Island's M.P. and the relevant Ministry to arrange to have the crew members of the mail boats tested for the COVID-19 virus before embarking on voyages to the Family Islands, in particular, Long Island.
Whether they would listen and take heed would be a serious matter for them if there is a consequential outbreak. Like the P.M. said, "hard head bird don't make good soup".
