RBC executive retires after blasting education of nation
Why is this man being ostracized? TIM Rider's comments were true to the facts and everybody is up in arms!
Successive inept, corrupt, governments destroyed the Bahamian economy by failing to educate our people and stupidly replacing the Bahamian workforce with too many expat foreign workers that repatriate income which eroded spend in the local economy thereby crushing the volume of business available to the banking sector.
25 years of the asinine political stupidity of Hubert Alexander Ingraham and Perry Gladstone Christie "leadership" is the root cause of the collapse of the Bahamas!
These two prime ministers sold the country out to Haitians, Asians, Latinos, Jamaicans, Africans, Chinese and now Indians that have regulated the average Bahamians to mass unemployment and soup kitchen lines for survival.
The powers that be need to man up and make obvious changes to rectify unemployment and domestic spending to fix the economy and shore up the banking sector. It is no great surprise that the fastest growing business in the country is money transfer companies repatriating expat income to home countries while local bank business shrinks proportionately as Bahamians are no longer players in the employment arena and have no money to bank.
PM Minnis running from pillar to post attempting to create new job opportunities is a futile effort when all he needs to do is have Bahamians placed in short-term training programs to replace foreign blue-collar workers, which will have an immediate sustainable positive effect on the economy.
Getting rid of Mr. Rider will not resolve the main problem of too many people repatriating income out of the local economy.

Yep, how dare the government vilify this pilot just because he did not have a commercial pilots license and was flying commercially and crashed his plane killing several people. Next thing you know the government will expect all us drivers on the road to have a drivers license, or even all these businesses to have a business license.

Foulkes sees urgency to solve shanty town crisis
The shanty towns exist because they are providing low cost labor to the business community, foreign residence and gated communities that are populated by millionaires and the elites.
Government is complicit by the issuance of work permits to persons that actually reside in shanty towns. Government also subsidizes the special interest by providing free education and health care to the unfortunate and exploited working class.
It’s a simple fix but no politician will touch it due to the special interests that control the politician.
Stop issuing work permits unless an individual has a proper and inspected place to live. Ahhh, there is the conflict. How much revenue does the government and intermediaries make off of work permits?
It’s always hard to solve a problem you really don’t want want to solve.

Left in limbo: Locked in Fox Hill three years ‘without charge’
Sickened...people with mental health problems are often shunned, scoffed at, or ignored...until they show up at a school or a former place of employment and kill a dozen people. Then they become celebrities. Or in the case of this guy, they rape someone and end up serving in two jails double time.
In either case it does not bring back the dead or turn rape victims into virgins. We need to focus on prevention.
The goal should be to PREVENT these problems from occurring by making mental health care available. More and more people are mentally ill because of the garbage we eat that we call food, esp. that consumed by pregnant mothers.
Ronald Reagan closed down the public mental health clinics in the USA because of the abuse there. Patients were living in squalor who were poor and those whose families had a tiny bit of money to bribe the doctors got better care but the doctors would deliberately keep their meds just below sufficient to get well so they became permanent resident patients just so they could keep getting bribes.
He could have chosen to implement better oversight and jail the offenders. But we know the innocent suffer for the guilty and he chose to go the other way. Here we do the same thing. We have the free mental health clinic at the top of market street with pretty good doctors, but the administration deliberately rotates the doctors between there and PMH so that long term patients hardly ever get to see the same doctor in follow-up. Psychiatry has a lot to do with eye contact and body language and some things can't be fully made wholesome in "the chart."
We have a choice as a society; health or death. It's a choice. We are probably too dumb to choose the right one.

In keeping with my Government’s commitment to abide by the will of the electorate as expressed on Monday’s referendum,” said Prime Minister Christie, “it has now become necessary to effect the closure of all webshop gaming operations in The Bahamas.
“Accordingly, all offending webshop owners and operators are placed on notice that all their gaming operations, including all online gaming and the numbers games, must cease with immediate effect. Failure to do so will leave all such webshop owners, operators and webshop gaming patrons exposed to arrest and criminal prosecution without further notice or warning,” he said.
Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade followed the PM’s lead with a statement that his forces were “mounting an operation” to close the gambling dens. In the meantime, webshop owners went to the Supreme Court for a declaration that their operations were not regulated by the Lotteries and Gaming Act and, therefore, should be allowed to continue in business.
However, before the January 28, 2013, vote, FML owner Craig Flowers announced his intention to close all of his shops should the majority of Bahamians vote “no” to gambling on referendum day. Island Luck owner Sebastian Bastian expressed similar sentiments.

Americans cannot fish without one, but to get one in the US you can go to a local retailer (Walmart, Tackle shop, Bait store , Marina, Basspro, Gas station) to get it, you do not have to go to the Island administrator, or fisheries office that is open the third Wed of the month from 12:00 to 1:00 but they have lunch from 12:15 to 12:45 and it takes 20 min to process, or do not have the license on hand and tell you come back . It is easy to get a license in the US, here it is a Giant mess
