MP Vaughn Miller quits FNM
Actually, that's not true, Economist - generally speaking. The Bahamians are here but, after doing the calculus, i.e. the low pay of a politician, having to solve every problem as far as Bahamians are concerned (and, of course, you better stay broke while you do it!), the gross intrusion on your public like and that of your family, and of course the utterly ridiculous, ungrateful Bahamians (just read the nonsense on this message board), the intelligent Bahamians have, in my view, made the intelligent decision and have remained in private life.

FNM taking credit for PLP work, claims Darville
“There were necessary structural adjustments, reinforced concrete, due to asphalt erosion caused by hurricane damage but by and large the project design was sound and three years delay is not justifiable.”
If the project was sound, why does one storm take it out?
The causeway, he stated is one of the material manifestations of the aggressive $100m capital works investment by the previous PLP government.
Where did the other $95 million go?
“Whatever became of the structure intended to house the northern campus of the University of the Bahamas that the PLP government began in east Grand Bahama? Bahamians are entitled to know,” he said.
Is Darville living in la la land? Has he not seen what Hurrricane Dorian did to the UB Grand Bahama campus?

The fact that you are allowed to do something doesn't mean you have to do it immediately. Common sense should play a big role. Unfortunately common nonsense usually has the upper hand.

What about my wedding day? Bride’s anger at calling off her big day when PM gave other ceremonies go-ahead
Not sure you understand, that all weddings can still happen per the order, with a maximum of up to 5. This person and someone in Nassau asked to have the numbers increased and this was given the OK. The person in the article could have had their wedding with 5 people or asked to see if they had more (as the HI and Nassau people did). The reason this is a big deal is the HI is a foreigner, whilst no one is hearing about the Nassau one.

@dawes, they will never understand because they dislike the government so much. Many can not be objective. I was trying to find where it said that people could not have their weddings. If you have invested that much money why cancel? I would have gone on as planned and cut back to the 5 people.
The tourists in Harbour island and the one couple in Nassau had the common sense to ask for permission. She could have easily gotten an exemption, especially since as she said the lockdown was not announced until 6pm on Saturday and her wedding was the next morning .I don't understand why everyone is up in arms about the wedding ceremony.
In any event, why are people still planning $10,000 weddings in these uncertain times. A small ceremony with an officiant is all that is needed. Parties and receptions can be planned for another date. #myfivecents

Why close down islands with no recorded cases?
I live on a Family Island that has no recorded cases of Covid. When it does come here it will be like a wildfire. It seems many people here believe it is a hoax. While the restrictions on many businesses do not make any sense at all, like shortening shopping days and times, I am quite fearful of the attitude presented here. Many people, just because they spent a few years here as a youth, or their parents or grandparents were from here, believe it is their right to come right from Grand Bahama or Nassau and blend right in, no concerns to self quarantine, masks or social distancing. This attitude is what will kill people, directly. The inability to critically think, and to have no concern for the welfare of others is too common. This attitude can be classified as nothing less than anti-social, anti-Christian, and wholly irresponsible, not to mention criminal. While I feel that the less intrusion on the part of the government is best. What happens when you have a large part of the population that just doesn't seem to "get it". Not only not get it, but simply don't give a shit? What should be our response when we see people who are directly endangering our lives? Shrug it off, as we do with the all so prevalent attitude that is wholly self centered and narcissistic? It is hard to classify this immature, uneducated and selfish worldview as just and decent. Are all the islands in The Bahamas of similar habits?

I agree with Mr. Albury, but we must remember, this is much bigger than our little chain of islands. I believe the problem is, and we all know, that we have a 10 Billion Dollar debt as a nation, any money that the government now uses/needs to feed the nation, has to come from the IMF. And it is my believe that IMF makes all these stipulations to shut down the country. We have no choice but to obey, if we want money to feed the 110,000 people that are now out of a job, including me. You cant tell me that our educated government leaders can not see, that these lock downs do not cure the virus and devastates our economy to the point of suicide. So it has to be a monetary reason. We have to stop running scared from this virus and learn to accept, that it is here to stay and we need to find a way to live with it. Some of us will get it and will come thorough it fine with HXCQ Or other recommended medicine and very few of us will die from it, but we could die from something else as well. Death is part of life. When we accept that, and realize that God is in charge of when and how we die, we will not be fearful anymore.

So u read half the sentence and stop: the opening of borders allowing non-essential travel and citizens visiting destinations where the virus has skyrocketed.
This really is ridiculous now. Yes, the govt, should not of let bahamians come back without a test and bahamians should not have been travelling to covid hotspots. We get yall hate Minnis, he must be grind yall girl didnt invite yall out. But covid cant be so deadly amd lives are at risk yet yall are up here rowing everyday that people are gonna die, but they have no responsibilty to be rational actors.

PM QUARANTINES: Turnquest also in isolation and staff urged to follow suit
I highly disagree with everything that has been said because all I'm seeing is negativity and ignorance. Why should he be concerned about individuals having treadmills if he worked with his own money to afford one? How does that correlate with the problems our country is facing today? How is he responsible for causing the deaths of our fellow Bahamians? Did he personally give them the virus? Did he tell them to go out and not social distance?.....Yes the government has made some flaws. However our country as a whole needs to take responsibility for what's going on today and stop throwing blame around to the person of most convenience. Instead you should offer logical solutions and less stupidity.

What you don't realize is that everytime we begin to open up and resume with our busy days. BAHAMIANS, not Hubert Minnis, not the government. BAHAMIANS don't follow the proper social distancing and as a result there are more cases than there ever. The problem is Bahamians don't see the severity of this disease and when they do realize I fear it may be too late for our economy.

Mixed views on reopening plans
By the way, it is not yours or anyone else’s constitutional “right’’ to ignore proper protocols and become potential super spreaders of Covid, 97 new cases yesterday, in your personal pursuit of happiness and freedom at the expense of others health and happiness. Bahamians are one set of ungrateful, selfish and self centered people, always bitching and complaining but never an original idea of their own or a useful or helpful suggestion. So yes, please do us all a favor and sit small in your corner quietly minding your own business!

Cut-price land deal for young buyers
There is saying that goes something like this : Ingratitude is worse than witchcraft. And the responses by some of these well ensconced idiots is a prime example of this phenomenon currently plaguing our nation.
Everything our Government does has to be spun in a direction of negativity. Here it is where our Government is providing an opportunity for young professionals to establish themselves with real property at an early stage of their careers and you have these mean spirited individuals attempting to criticize what is an innovative and magnanimous gesture on the part of the FNM Government.
During the time the PLP Government was in Office it was every person for themself and the devil catch the hindmost. Did we hear of any such projects like the one our Honorable Prime Minister is putting forth? Absolutely not.
So it would behoove these mean spirited and bad minded types to back off for a little while and give the young professionals the opportunity to become vested in property. These young professionals are the future of our nation and the sooner they have real property the quicker they will turn to putting their minds to build our nation.
I am asking Tribanon, who lives in a gated community, how old was he when he purchased his first home? Was it inherited? Was it from kickbacks? Pray let us know.
Finally, you have to give Jack his jacket on this one. Prime Minister Minnis deserves applause for this most creative and innovative way of empowering the young professionals. We have never seen, heard, sensed or imagined anything like this before. God Bless you Prime Minister. We love you. Stay healthy and continue to lead us down the road to prosperity.
