The Prime Minister is only showing who he truly is and that is a petty, vindictive, coward and spineless individual. Not allowing the PM to speak will only show how jealous he is of the former Prime Ministers accomplishment. Hope when he carries our country to the bring of destruction in the next 4 years he don't go run crying to HAI!

kkphilli4 11 years, 3 months ago on Cuban nationals repatriated to Havana

Leader of the Cuban Democracy Movement Ramon Sanchez, is a convicted felon that served 4 years in prison in The United States.

He has been disrupting things in the U.S. for years. He has blocked traffic in New York's Lincoln tunnel preventing drivers from traveling to and from New York City from New Jersey. He also in the past has sat on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami blocking drivers from going to Miami Beach from the mainland. We need to remind Americans what he has done to its citizens while protesting the U.S. repatriation of those Cubans that nearly made it to their shores.

Why has The Bahamas not hired an excellent P.R. Firm in the U.S. is beyond me. Why after all the lip service there still has not been any lawsuit in the tens of millions of dollars filed in a U.S. court for defamation is beyond me. Ignoring the bogus claims of the fake video clearly is not winning strategy. We need to act IMMEDIATELY to defend the good name of our country. This is poor leadership on the part of the government.

In the future, to avoid these allegations by Cuban Americans every few years, we need to make it a policy to have all Cubans deported back to Cuba within 48 hours. The longer you hold these unruly people the more damage is done to our reputation internationally. Surely Fred Mitchell can sign an agreement with the Cuban Government to accept their people back immediately rather than the Cuban government dragging their feet.

John 11 years, 7 months ago on Churchmen call for limit to Prime Minister's tenure

The Bahamas is a small country, in terms of population. At this point in our development we have to be careful not to dilute our heritage, culture and rights of the indigineous Bahamian. Therefore we should not relax neither our policies on citizenship or our immigration laws. If Haiti and Jamaica does not want to accept children born to their citizens outside Haiti and Jamaica, then why should we be forced to accept them, when their parents came here illegally? Since the countires of origin do not want to accept their children, then immigration must make efforts to deport expectingt mothers of these countires before childbirth. If we start accepting these chldren wholesale the problem will only get worse. Just because you can sneak in and have a child in this country shoundn't be grounds for citizenship

It may be partially explained by the fact that it appears the Minister has sent virtually his entire career in Government and politics where mediocrity and lack of training is rife and has never run a business in his life.

Why do Bahamians’ feel that, they their relatives or friends can leave the Bahamas and get a work visa anywhere else in the world but don’t allow anyone else get a visa in the Bahamas?

Ironvelvet 11 years, 8 months ago on Minister tells private sector: Stop moans over work permits

We need to face facts as a people. As quite a few of you have mentioned above, our nation is UNDEREDUCATED! Not only are we undereducated, but it is compounded with an attitude that they should have/deserve to have everything that an education and hardwork affords.

The reason why the Bahamas has done so well, and by that I mean became independent, and became a majority rule country, is because the poor/have nots made sure that they got an education. Education is the only vehicle out of poverty. Many of the doctors, lawyers, politicians, accountants, teachers, professors in this town that have experienced success many times over were prior residents of the "over the hill" communities. Many of them coming from single parent, substance abuse homes, and homes where the mom/dad was a waiter, maid and the like.

I find it deplorable to think that I must ask a business owner to pay 2 people to do 1 job (the person who knows what they are doing and the understudy being paid to learn and producing an environment where no profit will become of it). It is not the job of the employer to hire someone without skills applicable for the job to train them, that's why advertisements with qualifications needs and why resumes and references are required.

Also ironic, is Mr. Christie and co. asking to institute a "national training program" that is supposed to last 1 year....sounds a lot to me like the 52 week job program, created and executed by the FNM,....something that the PLP was staunchly against that we as a country, apparently and according to the PLP, could not afford.

Many businesses that participated in the 52 week job program stated that many of the workers were lazy, drama creating, late to work, unproductive, etc. Many didn't show up for work for weeks, but came to pick up their check.

If Bahamians want the job, go and get qualified for it. Many of them would die before they got their GEDs, or some other technical training, but yet they want their MP to find them a JOB. We need accountability and we need better education.

The Rt. Hon. Christie is the most dangerous politician when it comes to crying like someone is stabbing him with a dinner fork; while he is stabbing them with a cutlass ask Hon. Nottage, Mitchel or even Fritzgerald.

Yesterday, I watched our PM's entire show. I think the Rt. Hon Christie protested too much I wonder why?

Thats what we voted for so they will do as they wish, with only their interest at heart. Right now nothing about this administration surprises me, I am most surprised to see that people actually expected some positive things to come from them. They have been tried and proven. So with 4 years and couple months to go I will watch as they stucker whats left of this ecomony. ThisIsOurs 11 years, 5 months ago on Is the Bahamas slipping backward?

Madame Editor, if you can, please print this comment, it is a true and almost word for word recollection of an encounter that I was reminded of by your editorial.

A relative came to visit me during the Christmas holidays. They had not been to Bahamas for almost 2yrs. We were leaving the airport catching up on family when they said, that's a really nice airport they built, who did that? I said Hubert Ingraham. We drove along a little further and got to the airport road expansion, they asked what was going on there. I said I believe they're making more lanes. Their (really calm) response, Oh..., that's nice. We got to the light at JFK and they asked who did all this?? I said Hubert Ingraham. No comment. We rode along Thompson blvd and passed the stadium, they blurted out "Wow, Who built that," I said it was a gift from the Chinese govt to the Ingraham govt, they replied, that's really nice. We then took a detour to visit another family member before heading home and came to the Soldier road/Bernard road intersection. Again they asked, who did that..it was getting rather comical at that point. They said nothing when we got to Prince Charles:) the next morning I had to take them to an appt. on Shirley St. When we drove past the hospital they asked "What's that?" I said oh it's the new hospital, without any prompting they said "Hubert Ingraham do dat too?" I said yes and almost jumped out the driver's seat when they shouted, "Well if he did all dat why dey vote him out of office???"

I gave a pretty reasonable response about the level of frustration over the roadworks and the promises made during the election.

Mr Ingraham, I am apolitical but I hope you have an opportunity to see this and to know that people with eyes can see what you put in motion. Was everything done right, admittedly no. But the work you started put this country on track for a phenomenal transformation, I will pray every day that no action succeeds that would retard that growth and that someone rises up who can lead a similar transformation in the inner city. Thank you.

Ahah! A sensible and truthful statement. But a few months too late, the chickens are already roosting.

We castigate young boys who grab a $200 chain or steal a $300 cellphone. But at the same time we have very nicely groomed men in expensive suits who show up on our tvs everyday to tell us how much they care about us. Behind our backs they are doling out millions to their friends, business partners and campaign workers. Crime is crime. A professional firm was just paid 1 mil dollars the other day for work that if they were truly professionals, they would have written a cheque to the tax payers returning 3/4.

What happened to these people in pineward gardens is another true crime. Who could not have foreseen the hazards...

Man...it's a real b*tch working for a private company and not a government run employee slush house. You mean BTC is actually expecting WORK out of their staff?? Unbelievable!! Government never made them work, so why should you? Please...get on with your work. Just because CWC are actually holding the staff accountable to the contracts laid down and worked out by the UNION, they are going to start making noise. The ONLY reason for any government run utility is to house employees that would not be employable elsewhere in the industry and for political gain.

I believe BTC should stay privatized. However, the point is the PLP did promise they would take back BTC and people expected them to fulfill that promise. I don't know why with their record.
