Minnis 'well aware' of concerns over prison
The easiest way to reduce crowding at the prison is to reduce the number of people going there. Persons charged with murder especially since most of them are in their 20’s or younger and can be expected to spend some 50 years (based on a life expectancy of 75 in prison. This year (again in October) the murder count stands a good chance of being under 100, but as you know once the information gets published things go crazy and the killings skyrocket. Hopefully not this year. The initiatives by the Minnis administration to increase work programs in prison to allow inmates to improve their skills to get better opportunities at employment when they are released and to offer training to the young citizens of the Bahamas and also to give the police additional equipment will definitely reap benefits. Obviously someone in government is seeing that you cannot continue to throw young people and the future generations to the dogs (or dawgs for that matter. Hopefully by next year government will be able to reduce the $5 mill allocation to vehicles for the police by half and increase the prison program and the youth development program by the same amount. Not because they will be shortchanging the police, but not only will the police be taking better care of their vehicles but the investments in the youth programs will be paying dividends and there will be no need for additional vehicles,

A friend recently returned form a visit to Freeport and stated that although people are driving around and the town is not completely dead, it has lost its soul. Further there are people all over the place with uniforms sporting the logo "HW".

Downtown is a disgrace
A disgrace down town truly is Mr Raine. The clean up should begin at the old law firm of the two former prime ministers which is nothing but a burnt out shell of a building with trash one feet high all along its parimeter...The many buildings east of east street is home to many corridors filled with trash that our tourist pass daily. Some of these dilapidated buildings have porches with rotten ceilings and it is only a matter of time before someone is hurt by falling debris. The old Hotel corona is another eyesore and one wonders where is the down town Nassau partnership these days with all of their supposed plans.

The Cruise line group should not be allowed to operate the Nassau cruise port, Thats like the Airlines operating the Lynden Pindling Int Airport....Big time conflict of interest. What will happen when other cruise lines who are not apart of the NCL RCL, Carnival, Disney group want to call at Nassau. Will they be given the same benefits as this group if they Win ?. , ,Which cruise line itinearary will be given priority for birthing schedules. .With all the details in the public domain, This group (Global Port Holdings) has a far superior bid that touches all crucial points and covers all the necessary basis for effectively Managing, Operating, Spreading the wealth to the average Bahamian, and vastly improving the infrastructure and taking the Nassau port well into the 21 century. Global Ports should win hands down. Operating Cruise ports is what Global Ports does. The cruise lines should stick to their Business and let a port operator like global run the port. The committee will be wise in this recommendation to the Government.

Cruise lines miss out on port project
"Global port holding and CFAL are designing a fund that will own 49 percent of the shares in the port. We are keen towards ensuring that local people can buy into this fund. There is a minimum subscription of $1,000, so we are going to be providing interest free loans of up to $10m for local people to get a stake in the port.”
Save your pennies people now is your chance to get lil peace of the port pie and stop complaining

Perhaps that is why they are coming to the Bahamas to do as they like and act as they please, The Bahamas is sold for a small bowl of cold porridge. some will get a few dollars and it is all over,
They are sometimes here and sometimes there. No creditability. Say what Joe.??.

Read and weep. The Bahamas serves as the toilet of choice for the U.S. cruise ship industry with Carnival lying and falsifying records in order to conceal the damage done to our environment over many decades of illegally dumping raw and/or improperly treated sewerage, food waste, contaminated ballast water, and other harmful materials into our pristine waters.
Click towards right side of links below for the full story on Carnival's criminal conduct over many decades.

Carnival brings in more training after dumping
If there's one foreign company to never be trusted, no matter what, it's Carnival. And if Minnis, Symonette, D'Aguilar and Bethel refuse to accept that well-evidenced fact, then they should each be made to swim for several hours a week in a pond of raw sewerage pumped from the holding tanks of any one of Carnival's ships. This weekly swimming routine for Minnis, Symonette, D'Aguilar and Bethel should continue until the Bahamian people receive adequate compensation for the harm caused to their environment by Carnival's illegal dumping of untreated sewerage and other contaminants in our waters over many decades.

I am always completely embarrassed when I drive downtown or walk by the Wharf, watching cruise ship passengers move through the dingy downtown core in the hot sun. Not to mention the long walk to and from Junkanoo Beach. We must do better! That's the reason why the port is in the poor state that it's in now - everybody so worried about who might get the deal that our infrastructure, like everything else, is left to fall apart, costing us all millions of dollars a year. This group seems to bringing a lot to the table. Let's compare the other proposal, see what ther options come through the RFP process and may the best group win!
