DDK 6 years, 4 months ago on 'Hunted and priced out of rent because of xenophobia'

These "shanty towns" have only flourished because of lack of governance by almost every agency, department or ministry. If the current government is finally going to ensure that rules and regulations are obeyed by all, then these folk will have to join the rest of the country or take off. They should have accumulated quite a savings by now, or would have if all savings were not sent out of the country to bring in more under the radar. Things are tough and times are hard for most Bahamians so it is more than ridiculous to play the xenophobia card.

Fred Smith and his group talkin fool and we all know that's a very foolish thing to do, also i believe once the shanty towns are gone illegal persons would have less places to hide when they come here and evade officials, the message would be sent back that we can't hide you so easily anymore so don't come, they would send out less money out the country cause they would have to pay and live like the rest of Bahamian citizen, besides if they want to be citizens they should treated the same without exceptions FULL STOP. Shanty towns are illegal and 9 out of 10 they breed illegal activities

They can't be serious. Your rent is $37.50 and you won't pay it? These people really think the gov owe them something. If you can't afford to pay $37.50 per week in rent then you are probably in the wrong business.

newcitizen 6 years, 3 months ago on Tax hike 'shockwaves' hit high-end properties

This is exactly who should be paying extra taxes. We give out residency to foreigners buying homes so that they come and live here instead of just stashing their $10 million into real estate that has minimal tax and visiting once every two years. They do this to hide money from their own government because there is no information sharing from the Bahamian government about who owns property here, unlike banking information. These places should be occupied by the owners with them spending money living in the Bahamas. It doesn't affect small vacation home in most of the out islands either as they are below or near the $500,000 cut off.

The only people I hear complaining are the real estate agents who are trying to get their 6% cut when they sell from one tax avoider to another.

The outgoing board may proudly point to a number of notable accomplishments during their tenure.

So notable that we did not even notice.

If a Bahamian dictionary were created I'm quite sure the words transparency, accountability, honesty etc. would be conveniently omitted. We don't even know where to start...

hrysippus 6 years, 2 months ago on Final warning: Union boss threatens BPL chief

A manager at BPL putting an employee in fear of being terminated? Unbelievable, what was the man thinking? Employees at government corporations, like members of the civil service. are not allowed to be terminated. Next this manager will want to stop employees making personal telephone calls and sending personal emails during work hours. Unbelievable. Soon he will want a full day of productive work from everyone. time for a strike vote it would seem.

Lol! Don't forget that some only failed ONE drug test! Surely the union agreement states that you have to fail 3 tests before management has to send an apology letter to the staff for causing so much stress at work that the employee had to do drugs in order to cope.

The negative effects of unions and their practise of looking out for lazy, drunk, high, unproductive staff by far outweighs the small if measurable positive effects but then again I don't expect any better, living in "dis turd" world country !!!

Finally, a tiny piece of justice for Bahamians. However, it won't be of much value after we lose our entire country to the invading army.

If they do file a lawsuit, it will languish in the courts for 15-20 years in a morass of paper-shuffling and delayed and suspended hearings, while the Nassau lawyers for both sides meet for expensive lunches weekly and discuss how to bleed exhorbitant legal fees from both parties.

So with the legally employed persons paying into this scheme, the Haitians will now just start flocking here for free everything at our cost. Oh goody, I can't wait to go broke paying for the drug abusers, drunkards, illegal immigrants, and the baby makers, what a joy this is gonna be !!!

Well_mudda_take_sic 6 years ago on Health service funding crisis ends in landmark plan - 2% levy on wages to pay $100m costs

LMAO. Proposed NHI plan for catastrophic and other healthcare is totally ill-conceived with no basis at all in economic reality. This is nothing but yet another tax by another name. And, like our VAT dollars, the vast majority of Bahamians will get very little if anything in return for their NHI tax payments.

It should now be abundantly clear to all honest and hardworking Bahamians that the very dimwitted Minnis and his equally mentally challenged side-kick, Turnquest, only understand governing to mean one thing - tax, tax, tax and spend, spend, spend!

BahamaPundit 6 years ago on Mall owners to cover cost of renovations before Post Office move

Of course Brent will pay for the renovations. What the public doesn't realize is Mr. Symonette probably doesn't care that much about the rent the Gov will pay. He would probably be willing to lease the same space for $10 or even $8 a square foot!!!! What he cares about is getting Bahamians back into his abandoned establishment. The currency of having thousands of Bahamians enter his Mall each month to use the post office is priceless!!!! It means business owners will clamber to rent shop spaces in his Mall at higher prices!!! This is a definite conflict of interest and could be a payback for Brent funding the FNM ellection campaign.
