EXODUS: Thousands evacuated as NEMA insists it's doing the best it can
The people in NEMA have no logistical training or contingencies for the events they are mandated to carry out, that much is obvious. Thank God Nassau was not a part of this disaster or the entire country would have gotten thrown back to the stone ages
I was advised by an evacuee that a religious group they are a part of in Marsh Harbor foresaw the possibility that they might need to evacuate their people in the aftermath of the storm and made advance arrangement for private charters to evacuate their people. If a group of private citizens could have the foresight to do such NEMA has no excuse and should not be pleased with their response thus far. In fact the responses of private citizens, the US Coast Guard and British Royal have put the response of NEMA to shame!

Outsider from FL Gulf Coast, here. Venice, FL, airport as are many others, accepting donations of needed items to fly to Freeport and Abaco.
US military, Customs, and Coast Guard all flying in supplies, flying out evacuees.
ZNS-1 AM 1540 and on net via streaming another good source.
Many locals in our area dropping off rescue supplies daily.

Legislation drafted for mandatory evacuations
"Because there have been any number of manifestly false publications on social or other media and we as a people really cannot have a situation where in the name of free speech people are free to invent stories" When a government, any government, begins to believe it has the right to curtail free speech and free movement of people, those in government start behaving like dictators. Read your history. The immediate issue should be logistical. The government of The Bahamas has failed at so many aspects of this tragedy, ongoing today, that the real effort should be spent getting advice from other countries on how they manage to do what we cannot. It involves planning, discipline, and a true sense of serving your fellow human being. This government, as previous governments before them, have been total failures on all of these points. Just because we are in the grips of trauma, doesn't mean we should ignore that this country has been crumbling, stumbling and suffering for many, many years now. Because some numbers look good on paper to you guys, doesn't mean you are in touch with the widespread suffering, which has gotten worse, of the Bahamian people. The FNM has failed. Utterly failed. With that said, all of us know the PLP would have been worse. We have a crisis of leadership. I would throw every so-called political and religious leader out of their offices and start fresh with some recent college graduates to see if they could do better. Lord knows they couldn't do any worse.

Minnis asks - how can you help?
Its really simple. In a small country where everyone knows someone who has been affected. The only solution is outside help. Hard for someone to volunteer or turn up for work when they are trying to locate a relative.
Of course for this help to be received, there needs to be a suspension of the mindset that outsiders are invaders. Take the help and be gracious

And just think, our dimwitted PM Minnis is relocating many of these same violent illegal Haitian aliens to New Providence where they will quickly be enrolled by the well-established Haitian gangs that have been terrorizing New Providence for the last two decades or more......even the police are now most fearful of them and therefore outrightly avoid and/or refuse to enter certain areas of New Providence.
