I have to disagree with you Arob. Having traveled quite a bit (and knowing only a little of Spanish and French), it's always refreshing to find someone who speaks your language. I spent a part of my degree studies in Europe and those students know at minimum 2 languages (their own and English). That's a PLUS in any job market. In the tourism industry you must be well versed in a foreign language(s). Furthermore it's proven that learning languages increases your capacity to think analytically...and well you will more than likely earn more money knowing a second language.

Yes people enjoy learning new things while they travel...but language barriers can be more of a frustration and less of a good experience.

Yes Arob you make a good point. Still for a tourist speaking a foreign language (spanish) do you think that at some point their english comprehension would leave them handicap. If our citizens are only equipt with english what assistance could we offer to a tourist with limited english comprehension. Its not a matter of boosting the South Florida economy, its a matter of being able to literally accommodate the South Florida travellers to boost our Bahamian economy. Just say you was to travel to a spanish speaking country, how you think your trip would be if not even the cab driver, hotel front desk agent or travel agents to return home would be if no one knew english?

So on YOUR trips you expect to learn and comprehend a whole new language in mere days. Just say your trip was for a month, what was the purpose, to learn a new language or vacation. Might as well took Fitzgerald up on his opportunity to learn it right at home. Meant for Arob

For a long time I've been saying that we have a problem communicating with each other and dealing with our emotions. Many women in this country fuel these arguments between men. I have witnessed many an argument in clubs over women. These have often turned into a brawl in the club or spilled out onto our streets. But women cannot be solely blamed in these matters.

We men need to learn to catch a hold of our emotions. I have always said and will say again. Bahamian fellas can't handle rejection. If a gal rejects you just simply move on. No need to cuss her out and act the fool. I understand its hard for the guys in relationships with these hot gals because some of these guys spend all the small change they earn treating these girls. Then the girl runs off with another fella and laughs at you. But killing the next fella or hurting her don't make an ounce of sense. Anyway lets keep praying that people would use good judgement in these situations.

John 12 years, 6 months ago on BEC chairman Miller vows to lower bills

If You kill one person it could be an accident, self defence, manslaughter or murder. If you kiill 300 then it can be murder, mass murder or genocide. So there is a big difference. If someone has a balance on his bill after paying the current bill the balance can be less than 30 days old. If someone has $300,000.00 and claims his highest monthly billing is $30,000 thats like the bill is 10 months in arrears. Since 10 months is closer to 12 than it is to six, that person is almost a year behind on payments. BEC was coming around to the average consumer disconnecting supplies for less than $200.00 Many consumers were treated like common criminals where BEc workers would sneak into their yards while they were at work or even when they were at home and disconnect their supply and slip away without giving the consumer the opportunity to pay. While Hon. Leslie Miller has his lights on and A/cs running and $300,000.00 owing to BEC smaller consumers had to choose between putting food on their tables and keeping the light on. This is NOT a BEC problem you may say, but BEC is a corporate citizen and hence it should hace coporate compassion. If one can rack up a bill for $300,000 at least there should be a minimum cut off amount of that amount .001% of 300 thousand. How much was city markets BEC bills before they decided to close?

Can a generator running on bunker C be converted to run on LNG - I am not sure but I doubt it highly - So Mr. Chairman, how does you broke corporation afford to make the conversion to new generators that will burn this cheaper fuel? Petrocaribe was a loan programme and while it hedged some prices it has not created any huge benefits to the current signatories and begs the question as to whether we want to owe Chavez - Check the Caribbean signatory prices at the pump and it is very similar to ours even though there consumption is lower - I suggest he stops the big promises and focuses and what he can contribute - A finalized energy policy, a range of incentives for solar at least for water heating and incentives for individuals and firms that can afford it to make investments in wind and tidal - Speak to conservation and launch a national program to teach conservation. #mytwocents

What's up with you JohnBrown? Can't you recognize compliments when you see them. You may want to read Paul's comment again - a little more slowly next time.

Paul VZMK, thanks for the positive reviews of the Bahamas. Glad to have your support. I'm sure you are of the caliber to forgive "misunderstandings when you see them.

Sapphire, if you are looking at the Bahamas through rose colour glasses, then I can see why you could not understand my response. When Paul has personally motivated at least a thousand persons to come and visited the Bahamas, as I have, and they spent money here despite some horror stories, which have came back and slapped me in the face, then I will see be able to ascribe value or merit in such a compliment. If each Bahamian do not feel duty bound to make their every action that compels visitors to come here or want to return here then should be ashamed of ourselves. We don't need compliments, our actions and good deeds should speak volumes in and of and for itself. What we need to do is keep these major hotels filled to capacity year round with the aid of selfless, competent marketing managers; We need to elevate the fishing and agriculture industries to the extent of becoming a major player and exporter of such products internationally and thereby reduce unemployment and crime. That's what I'm talking about.!!! Nevertheless, I tend to agree with carlh57 concerning our over-all don't give a damn attitude, but the pain that is headed here is going to force Bahamians hands. I have lived a full life internationally and locally, so you can't hurt me no more, so long as I can grab my fishing line and catch me a fish while living on anyone of our Bahamian island. The man said, if you can't fish, cut bait, if you can't cut bait then get the hell out of the boat!
