My deepest condolences to the Bruner family & the crew of the Liberty. I cannot fathom the devastation a mother experiences when she gets a call on Mother's Day that her son was murdered. As an ex-pat living here for over 2 years, I've seen a dramatic increase in violent crime and the inability of the Police Force to control the problem, or solve even the most basic crimes. The Bahamas, especially New Providence and even PI, are NOT safe. I personally know at least 4 friends that have been held up at gunpoint as well as many more home break-ins, including myself. I no longer recommend traveling here for tourism to my friends and family. It really is sad that that's the case given that this country has some of the world's most beautiful waters & beaches. I will be leaving as well at my soonest opportunity.

Who is the editor ? There are so many references to the RBDF when you are clearly talking about the RBPF. Get it together.

I agree wholehartedly with the Commissioner. I can understand his and the RBPF's dissatisfaction after going out of their way to arrest these people only to have them released to the streets to commit the same crime plus possibly others.

As for the editor.......We all should know by now the articles are not proofread!! Talk about the education system!!!

What beautiful piece of poetry…this is hands down the best and most truthful article I have ever read. I never adorned political party colors, or whip myself into frenzy during elections, I never looked or treated any politician as a god, like so many others do. I am as what most people would call, a “Haitian-Bahamian” or simply label by Bahamians as a “Haitian”;by birth, I was born and raised in the Bahamas and both my parents were Haitians. I remain stateless until I was 19, that was when I was naturalized as a Bahamian citizen.

Since I was little, I was constantly ridiculed and made to feel ashamed of my heritage; I was never able to fit comfortably into Bahamian society without the subject of my origin becoming an issue. To this day, at work, I am not respected by my colleagues and declined opportunities to excel on my job due to coworkers subtle discrimination tactics.
I can relate to this part of the article,” If you are among the many who through no fault of their own were born here but remain undocumented; this is not about you”.

I did not have control over where, to whom, or how I would be born, God did. So why do so many God - fearing Bahamians treat me as if I did?

Am I not a human being like them? Do I not deserve to be happy, go to school, get a job, own a business, have a home, get married, or have kids? Will we not all die one day and be judge by the same Creator?

In the end, in Matthew chapter 25,God will only ask, did we love the least of our brothers?

I know this government would be bad for the Bahamas but I could not imagine it would go this low. You need to remove this man’s’ voice from the world stage before he can do anymore damage.

The British built the foundation in The Bahamas. The country was given to the African descendents 40 years ago. What have they done with it? Nothing. You're welcome for being given a beautiful land. Now, ungrateful and wanting another hand out. Where would you be if you were still in Africa??? How does someone as inept as Mitchell get in power???

It really is mind boggling how dumb some Bahamians can be. Even the "educated" officials at the highest levels in government. Too stupid to even understand they're getting a free hand out. It's like saying "thanks for helping us, now you have to pay us". SMH...

I see a lot of ridiculous things in the news, but this... This is just... Who ARE these morons? Why would they stop volunteers from coming in to help take care of this problem? They suddenly want to do it themselves? And want to be PAID?! Get the hell out of here! The next person to suffer an attack should be one of those idiots.

I would be happy to pay $50 for each local Vet that is spayed or neutered. They should never be allowed to breed.

An Israeli doctor says: 'Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man,put it in another, and have him looking for work in six weeks."

A British doctor says: " That is nothing we can take a lung out of one person, put it in another , and have him looking for work in four weeks.

A Canadian doctor says:'In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person , put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks."

A Bahamian doctor , not to be outdone , says: You guys are way behind, We just took a man with no brain-made him Prime minister, and now the whole country is looking for work!!!!

I only get to visit your lovely country, but I've been there enough to say "Mudda Sick!" to this. The local vets lose no money for having volunteer vets come and do some routine surgeries that prevent more needless suffering for these animals. They are strays, no one would pay for them anyway. The volunteers come, do the work, and maybe spend some money while they are here. Then maybe, in time, the tourists don't see these sad looking starving animals, and wonder what is wrong with this place. And before anybody starts, I have put my money where my mouth is---I have 2 Potcakes!

But why do the Germans have jobs? Because they are skilled and well educated or because the govt has implemented policies to force hire an unskilled native workforce? Protecting mediocrity is not a long term winning strategy, in our case I don't even know if we can call it mediocrity, because we're failing.

Regarding the local vets, the numbers I see here say that they cannot handle the size of the problem today. The outside help is only temporary.

I'm not withdrawing support from anyone, as I said previously, these vets are examples of the kinds of people we want in our society, people who've educated themselves are working hard and are making a contribution.

If you don't make any money from it Dr. Bizzell then was does it matter who does it?? Having just participated in a spay/neuter clinic in Turks & Caicos I saw first hand what it takes to spay/neuter that many animals in such a short time period. It was like a military operation. Without the experience and know how of Pets Without Vets (vets and vet assistants!) who been there, done that it would not have been possible. Just because you're a vet does not make you qualified to manage such a large scale clinic. Shame on you and your fellow vets in the Bahamas!!
