‘Adapt as banks shut their doors’
By now one may have had reasonable expectations that our Minister of Finance would have realized that he is now a Cabinet Minister and a member of the government that sets policy and thus his words have real consequences. Instead, almost a year after being elected he still sounds like a politician from an Opposition Party. Further, what is equally concerning is his ever changing positions every time a mic is put in front of him.
Just last year Turnquest made the following remarks about this same technology and bank consolidations as reported by the Tribune........... "The bank’s statement yesterday indicated its expectation that such delivery platforms will compensate for the branch closures, but Mr Turnquest told Tribune Business this objective did “not face the reality of our customer base”. “The reality is that if you’re only making a couple of hundred dollars a week, doing business online is simply not feasible,” he said. “If you get paid weekly on a Friday, you’re going into get the cheque cashed that same day to pay your bills.” In the same article. Mr. Turnquest, who was then in Opposition, chastised the governing PLP for not doing enough about the bank closures. However, now that he is in power he appears to be blaming the same guy that makes a couple hundred dollars a week who needs to immediately pay his bills for not being tech savvy. The sad thing is that even if that guy is not tech savvy, that is no excuse and still does not absolve the government from taking a stance on these closures.

Judge orders govt to bring back Jean Rony Jean-Charles
Obviously YOU are the product of the "D" average syndrome, because you fail to see why the majority here are speaking out. Or perhaps you are salty because of your warped sense of allegiance to the Haitian community. The issue here is NOT what the judge ordered-I am sure everyone here is aware of the fact that judge did not order that this man be given citizenship. But we know that this will be the next step. This man is the product of illegal parents, who obviously did not see the need to present proper documents so that he could become legal. NO, his mother spat him out, like the majority of them do and then left him to be a burden of society. But to cut a long story short, a lot of this mumbo jumbo would be a thing of the past if the loophole was closed that allows the many Haitian woman to spit out children like crabs spawn on the beaches. Don't get mad, get glad!

@ hrysippus....Let me be clear. In simple terms, we the people of the Bahamas, inheritors of these here rocks and cays, having been routinely spat upon and disrespected by your ungrateful Haitian parasites NO LONGER WELCOME ANY PEOPLE OF HAITIAN HERITAGE HERE!
All Haitians and every one of Haitian descent needs to go back to the country you love so much, fly your Haitian flags, speak Creole, and celebrate Haitian flag day with dignity.

If a child is stateless then the only people to blame are the parents and grandparents of that child. It is a parents responsibility to register their children where they belong and to get those children the documents necessary for all instances and emergencies.
I can't imagine me as a parent moving to another country for work, having a child there and saying to myself "the child can deal with this when she's 18". And knowing that until then the child can't leave this new country for any reason. I would kick myself in the nuts for being so ignorant!

Too late. They fell though the "crack" in the delivery room and wound up being our problem.
These are some of the most disgusting people on Earth - them and the idiots at the U.N. Why the hell are Haitians our problem? What country can Bahamians go to and be taken care of and force laws to be changed?
PLEASE tell me the name of that country so i can head to the airport in the next 5 minutes to claim my rights.

Mr Campbell don't know what going on in Haiti. . .that article no longer exist in the Haitian constitution!! Yall can relax man. . .nobody with sense will take that woman serious. . .telling the Bahamas about not allowing a mother to pass on birthright if she has a baby for an overseas man is unlawful according to CEWDA. . .the she come right around and say "yinna making children stateless because Haitian mothers can't born 3rd generation Haitian children in Bahamas. . .yinna have to change them bad laws"!! She calling the Bahamas backward and illegal for doing the same dang thing Haiti is doing to those 2nd generation by not allowing Haitian mothers to have Haitian children if they are not born in Haiti. . .but more egregiously stateless than they speculate that the Bahamas does!! She requires from us something that no other state, including her own does!! You don't come in my country illegally, have ya children and then ya home government tells you they can't come back home and you require us to take the against our laws and you let Haiti go playing tidily winks! Our delegation was "all bitch-up" if ya ask me. . .ya simply had a dumb woman running rabbits over a dumber Bahamian delegate. . .under a leader who did not have a clear cut grasp of what he do!

99% AGREED! Not certain that countries in the Caribbean have not accepted migrants from Haiti, but you may be right. They seem to spread like wildfire!

This situation reminds me of the 1937 Parsley massacre. . .they are doing the same thing here in the Bahamas as was done to cause the uprising!! I would advise persons to check their history of Haitians "bullying" nationals about adjusting their national laws to accommodate them and their refusal to return to their own nation!! This kind of up raising took place in the DR recently. . .many were killed and about half million were "by law" thrown out of the country. . .basically telling the UN them. . .GO TO HELL. . .IF YINNA WANT TO GIVE THEM A BLIGH. . .TAKE THEM TO YOUR COUNTRY!!

The Minister said Nassau was “as safe as any American city” for visitors, and suggested The Bahamas would have to assemble a working group to address the cruise industry’s concerns in much the same way it dealt with the US Embassy’s fears on the same topic.
The constantly yapping darling little white haired poodle just fails to admit that most Bahamian families (like most illegal Haitian aliens) would seriously consider relocating from crime-ridden Nassau to an American city if they had the financial means to do so. Even Chicago is safer than Nassau today in terms of per capita murders, home invasions, rapes, sexual assaults, etc. Unlike most of us, the yappity yap yap little poodle can afford to live in a heavily guarded much safer neighbourhood. LMAO

The average wait in the USA is about 7 to 15 years. . .and you can't be in the states when ya number comes up. . .if you are there you must leave!! This bitched-up case was floating around last year. . .NO GOVERNMENT WILL SEND ITS CITIZEN BACK TO ANY NATION THAT DEPORTED THEM JUST ON THE VALUE OF THE DEPORTEE SAYING. . ."I EEN GAT NOBODY HERE SIR".
It is a waste of time talking to you. . .carry on in your ignorance. . .WE WILL JUST CONTINUE TO CARRY OUT OUT LAWS UNTIL WE CHANGE OUR LAWS OR THERE ARE NO MORE HAITIANS BORN HERE TO DEPORT!!
YOU ACT THE JACK ASS AND NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING EXCEPT YA OPINION. . .THEN WE WILL DO WHAT WE DO AND BE DAMNED WITH YOUR OPINION!! CARRY ON SMARTLY!!

A country is not a charity and countries do not run on emotions and sob stories, if the plan is to be a successful nation. The rules for citizenship are very simple. By now, his people should have long established best practices for obtaining citizenship in a timely manner. Instead it is his very people that are clogging up the system and committing fraud resulting in the extensive delays. They know that sometimes all they need is a good sob story to get around the law, and that is not how it should work. The Bahamas needs to set the right tone so that they take the law seriously. The fact is they live in a country within a country and are only Bahamians when it is convenient for them. The average Haitian in the Bahamas knows more about Haiti than they do the Bahamas.

Listen everyone... this is The Bahamas!
Though I doubt our PM is sharp enough to play his cards in a way to take advantage of what China and the US may offer.
Rather than having them both take advantage of us! If only we had truly politically savvy leaders. (Sigh)

I remember my paternal grandfather believing that had the Chinese been the second ethic group to set foot on the North American continent there would be no other people of colour or ethnic origin on that continent today. The fact that Red China remains such a closed society in this day and age is quite telling and is something we Bahamians should not be quick to dismiss. When it comes to their respective foreign policies, the U.S. and Red China are essentially two evils alike, with each seeking to expand their sphere of influence on the world stage while at the same time acquiring low-cost access to and/or control of the natural resources of other nations. But it's an undisputed given that the U.S. is a very big step above Red China when it comes to respecting and encouraging human rights, property rights (including intellectual property rights) rights and fundamental democratic processes. We must not lose sight of the fact that all devils are not created equal!

The thing is, politicians, of all people, should remember that nothing in life is free, not even the air we breathe these days! Governments, like bank customers, should never borrow more than they can realistically repay. SMART borrowers NEVER forget this basic tenet. Most smart lenders take collateral. Collateral comes in all forms...........

It is public knowledge and fact that Dr. Nicolette Bethel is an unapologetic and unshameful supporter of the free movement of people in the region, and perhaps the whole wide world.
She believes strongheartedly in open borders; and there is no such thing as illegal immigration in her mind.
Dr. Bethel is also known as Dr. Spoilt Ballot.

Fine, increase the penalties for those who kill in the course of driving--- if you can catch them. Why not increase the penalties for those immigrants who overstay their visits too? $1000 is not enough!

Ma Comrade Braddas, nonsense talk about how this administration needs time learn be equipped move with banking technology that is not new but been around during their first three governing red administrations.
