duppyVAT 9 years, 11 months ago on FNM leader: Christie administration 'paralysed' in the face of crime

Government is not PLP or FNM ............ crime is a national issue that requires bi-partisan effort. This is not like the politicised gender vote (that the PLP hi-jacked in 2002).

Safety, security and piece of mind of the citizen is a function of government.

ALL three branches of Government (Legislative, Executive & Judiciary) are responsible.

Crime and the fear of crime are destroying the quality of life in this country. Everyone is fear and it is a terrible way to live. While our police force leaves a lot to desired, in terms of more training and a reduction in corruption, most of our problems lie in an antiquated, dysfunctional judicial system. It is unacceptable to have such a backlog that it takes a minimum of three years for a murder trial to be heard. The result is serious criminals are released on bail as they have a right to have their case heard in a timely manner and can not be incarcerated while waiting for their trial. Victims and their families see that there is no justice in this and it leads to retaliatory crime. The courts do not dispense justice in a timely manner so people take the matter in their own hands. We needs courts that operate 24/7 until this backlog is cleared.

Newsflash Dr. Minnis, the nation is paralysed by crime. As duppyvat states the safety of the people is a function of government and in this regard The Government of the Bahamas is an utter and complete FAILURE. You and yours (the political elite both FNM and PLP) are perceived to be CORRUPT and more interested in power than LEADERSHIP. the political elite cares more for a VOTE and POWER than the NATION and it's well being. You and your are the ROOT cause of crime in this country and until the political leadership of this country comes CLEAN we are doomed!

As an example of swift judicial action and what is possible, several years ago in England there was a large riot. 3000 persons were charged with various criminal acts. Extra judges were added and the courts operated 24/7. Literally at 3 a.m. in the morning cases were heard. Needless to say in one week all 3000 cases were adjudicated. We need that here if we are serious. Justice must be swift and it must be seen to be done, otherwise we have our current situation where no one respects the law as they know there is very little chance they will be punished for their crime.

I'm in full agreement with the above statements. All those in government need to do their job! What the hell are these guys doing collecting paychecks and bickering back and fourth about the same issues. We've reached a STALEMATE on the issues of crime in the Bahamas. Remedy the problem!!!! I can't even begin to comment on Minnis' thought process; he seems clueless!

I understand where Smith is coming from.. but unfortunately the person that would stand to get my vote hasn't physically incarnated as yet. These guys we have circulating from party to party are not worth the time and effort. We need REAL LEADERS! Not yes men who are more than happy to bend over backwards and cater to foreign entities that supplement their pockets at the detriment of its own countrymen. No Way!

Sooner of later we are getting to get a lot of comments from ignorant parents saying that their loving and nice 18-25 year old sons are always being stopped by police when driving around with their music blaring and super dark tint. To those parents and human rights extremists I say put a sock in it... we don't want to hear it. I for one have no problem with police profiling our ratty looking youth and pulling them over and searching their vehicle and their person. I would much rather our youth know and witness the authority of our police officers than to have them think that they can dress and act the way that many of them do with no consequences. I have regular tint on my car windows and I ALWAYS put the windows down if approaching a road block so that the officers can clearly see me and my occupants. I feel sorry for those officers out there at road blocks. Imagine their fear every time a tinted vehicle pulls up, wondering if the occupants have guns and are getting ready to shoot them and speed off.

I agree! Don't want to hear anyone crying about their good son or daughter. Everyone is well aware of crime and the steps necessary to eradicate this cancer to our society. If you're out there acting the fool I can not sympathize. It's a war-zone that has been created because of the lackadaisical attitudes we take in bringing up our children and our lack of positive contribution to our society and country.

I'm not a xenophobe but I think the flow illegal immigrants needs to stop. Tell your brothers and sisters that we cannot support them. There are MANY MANY MANY MANY children in the US in detention centres without parents. Have you accused the US of human rights violations because of it? No, because in and of itself it's ridiculous. We do not have the money, our government ministers are all corrupt, they have robbed the treasury blind, we have NO MONEY to support illegal immigrants. That's just a fact. If you arrive here and are placed in a detention center under less than desirable conditions, it's because WE HAVE NO MONEY. ITS GONE, STOLEN, BUT ITS GONE. If you arrive here and have a baby, the baby is not Bahamian, please let all of them know.

We have so much Haitian love in Bahamaland we turn over to them, their very own Talk Radio Broadcasting Station. Comrade Ambassador Bocchit Edmond don’t you have your own nation’s problems to be dealing with? Ambassador we only as you put it “verbal abuse” those Haitians, if they are in Bahamaland, uninvited and unwelcome to stay. It is your own Haitian government who is behind your country’s citizens fleeing to Bahamaland. The world needs to know, if many thousands of illegal Haitians were not abusing their presence on Bahamaland’s soil, we would not have a need to verbally abuse them or anyone who calls for an economic blockade against our tourism industry. What is there you as a Haitian does not understand about; go home if in Bahamaland illegally? If you wish Bahamaland’s people can shout this from their bullhorns. Ambassador we do not want another Haitian disaster for Bahamaland. Get hell out now.

I wholeheartedly admit to xenophobia against Haitians especially after watching them riot and the violent demonstrations now happening in Haiti.

Bahamians do not act like that and we do not want mass Haitians here because WE KNOW they will bring their nasty disgusting ways with them and drag our country down to the cesspool level of Haiti.

Get ALL ILLEGALS out of our country but CONCENTRATE ON HAITIANS because they are the biggest group and the ONLY group that has been more than a pain in the ass for far too long!

Comrade I am not only one you have hung your xenophobe label on. It is the 'shit disturbers' within the Haitian community that adds to why the yelling is becoming necessary. What other nation would permit illegals to not only enter their country but remain silent while they construct their own living quarters in Shanty Towns? You can go to hell.

I'll wear the Xenophobe label proudly! We've been Haiti's doormat for too long! To now 'shit all over us' after we've let these violations of immigration gone on for so long, is indeed a slap in the face. If the head (Haiti's Ambassador) is making such uninformed statements, and passing the buck like this, then I see why we as Bahamians cannot expect any better from the rest. :(

Mr.Edmond is saying that those children of reference are BAHAMIANS. That is the HAitian's theory of being born in the Bahamas. They can't think beyond that. As far as disrespect for Haitians living illegally in the BAHAMAS, Mr. Edmonds' story is all hearsay, he really does not have time for the peasants.

There is no Xenophobia in the Bahamas we have been a nation that welcomed people for years, I think the influence that foreigners bring that goes against our constitution, beliefs and morals are what we dislike as Bahamians, (No Fear)
