OldFort2012 6 years, 6 months ago on DPM says 'open to all' 12% VAT alternatives

Here is one suggestion. First lower the maximum salary in Government and the Civil Service to 2 times the national average. That would make the maximum salary $50,000.

Then work out how much that would save and fund the remainder with VAT increases.

Don't like the suggestion, do you, KP?

Fund education how??????? ................... Politicians need to stop talking crap ......... We need an Education Plan that will get the "over 70% of school leavers" out of the functionally-illiterate gutters ........... Just let the MOE publish the BJC and BGCSE results by school and it could be worse.

How do you increase Bahamian ownership of government assets. It’s not possible, as if the government owns it, it belongs to all Bahamians. This is just code for wealth transfer to rich friends.

“We have not come up with any concrete plans yet, but the idea basically is that all of the government assets would go into a trust fund or a special sovereign fund where Bahamians would be able to invest in it with a guaranteed return."

This could well be the swindle of the century in the making if the already 100% government-owned assets are going to be transferred to the special sovereign fund for anything less than their fair value. Just think about it for a moment. The government assets being talked about here are already supposedly 100% owned by all of the Bahamian people. To transfer these assets to a trust fund expected to be owned by only investors in that fund, rather than all of the Bahamian people, would mean all other Bahamians end up giving up something, i.e. their interest in the transferred government-owned assets, for which they (the Public Treasury) should be entitled to receive the equivalent fair value of as consideration in return from the trust.

There's something very fishy going on here, and the fact that Gregory Cleare and possibly the Holowesko family are involved should raise a number of very serious questions.

Remember: Whenever government mentions Pubic-Private-Partnership (PPP) they usually mean Pilfering-Pillaging-Plundering of the Bahamian people.

And beware any politician who talks about a "guaranteed return". That's sure fire code for the Bahamian people at large getting royally ripped-off in some deceitfully devious way.

John 5 years, 6 months ago on Budget under the microscope

Like the budgets of many previous governments, this budget cuts off too much fat for foreigners (in the Bahamas) and special interests groups. So while the aim and intention of the government may be to hit financial targets, its direction may be thrown off by its own pandering and its lack of testicular fortitude to go after the multi billions in assets and cash flows in the country that is not effectively being taxed. So government is, in effect, creating its own revenue shortfalls. And when this happens they will most likely go back to the poor and middle income, hardworking Bahamian, who is already in fear of losing everything he owns, and taxing him more. Why should vehicles, for example, that most Bahamians consider luxury products, be allowed to be brought into the country without duties being paid in consideration of all the other concessions given to motor dealers and in light of the government’s need to collect revenue? Food prices and fuel and energy prices continue to escalate. This is nothing more than a slave-making budget for local Bahamians, who will eventually have to pick up the slack for the unnecessary give aways. Some people may be selling luxury cars duty free whilst others may be purchasing and driving them.

2 takeaways 1) They did not apply this warning approach to the curfews as they do with the masks. Persons were getting prosecuted but here, hey you mask on. 2) In less than 2 weeks, not only did they find an MP named Carlton Bowleg, but they discovered another one named Ricky Mackey.

Please, PMH has always been a house of horrors long before Covid. The nurses there are the worst of the lot. Just horrible!!
Notwithstanding there are a minor few who care about their jobs... but most don't give a crap about the patients.

This has been going on for years and years. If those in charge were actually concerned, things would have changed long ago. So obviously, everyone turns a blind eye. I'm sorry... but everyone knows most times you end up in PMH, you're only coming out in a body bag (that was long before Covid, so I can only imagine now). No accountability in government agencies!!!!
