Curious how you can have a job fair where no jobs are available and companies are closing down or laying off every single week...

Now is not the time for political games. Freeport is at rock bottom. The only way to fix it is to first admit to the problem. Not play games. Nothing came out of that job fair but some cherry picked pyblicity designed to promote this government. We were all very excited about Oban for about 48 hours. Then we learn the whole thing us littered with crooks and liars. So far this FNM government gets a solid f- in Grand Bahama. Reminder your 1 year anniversary is in May. Since you have been sworn in Freeport has gotten demonstraboy worse thanks to your complete lack of action.

The Bahamian Government should move NOW to rescind ALL of these private cays/day resorts deals that the cruise ships have access to ........ or tax them a minimum of $50-100 million a year as rent or lease of our territory ....... The cruise ships will eventually use their cays and not stop at Nassau ...... hence creating their own tourist haven in The Bahamas ........ The lease or sale of Bahamian cays to cruise lines was stupid from Day 1 and now I hope that Minnis and DD see how dangerous it will be when The Bahamas now tries to negotiate any new taxes or revenue enhancement deals with the cruise lines.

Government needs to negotiate where we become the 1st stop on these 7 day cruises instead of the last. By time they get to Nassau the passengers are spent (mentally and physically) and have little urge to explore or spend anymore. Also, we need to negotiate where passengers have the option to board the ships in Nassau instead of Florida. Hopefully then some of these passengers will arrive a day or two early - stay in a hotel and enjoy what Nassau has to offer.

Simple problem to solve. Increase the fee for a birth certificate to $750 and invest it in a conservative mutual fund in USA so the money is there when people die. Give the Executor of any Will for anyone who bought the new birth certificate $750 to help pay funeral costs in the cases where a deceased leaves a Will.

If they don't leave a Will or under old or no birth cert then govt just pay as they do now.

Hey....this might even cut down a bit on the plague of bellyswellitis.

Agreed ........ But we have copied this "welfare" mentality from the First World ...... Where they even pay single mothers "welfare" to have more babies AND healthy but "disabled" people not to work ............ No one wants to accept responsibility for their actions and future anymore .... SAD, SAD, SAD

What should this country expect when our athletes, officials and fans return from Brazil? any special measures to be taken. Some countries are advising their female athletes and participants to abstain from sex for at least three months to avoid the risk of getting pregnant and having a deformed baby. Some of the symptoms of Zika are so mild many persons will not know when they have the virus.

I think this can be good in the long term. But today very little of GB's is tech saavy so it is incredibly doubtful this will benefit GB in the short term. Probably onky end up with more foreigners working on island sending their pay home to pay bills.

And still Freeport lingers in limbo. Still can't go back home to get a job.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO GET OUR HOTELS OPENED AND OUR MARITIME INDUSTRY BACK! NOW! WE CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER. WE WANT TO GO HOME!!!

Don't let Marlon Johnson mess things up at Finance and leave it like he did BTC! He was the one that introduced the minimal profit margins that put so many Top Up Vendors and small businesses, yes in the same area he is addressing now...OUT OF BUSINESS Glad to see Marlon Johnson is able to view some of the damage he caused. First hand! Most businesses start off with a profit margin of 20 - 35 percent and end up with net profits of 5 to 10 percent Marlon tried to get retailers to operate on a 5-6 percent gross profit which is totally impossible. So most retailers are selling Top Up at a 15-25 percent LOSS! It was convenience items like phone cards and top up that kept little mom and pop stores in the over the hill area open they could make a little something when the big stores are closed. But Marlon Johnson change that He made these stores go from making a profit to virtually paying BTC for selling its products. And Aliv came and joined the game Johnson knows little or nothing about Finance or Economics. How can the businesses pay all the relevant fees and be legitimate if they are operating on 5 cents on the dollar? Pure dumbness

John 8 years, 3 months ago on Baha Mar work starts next month

Ironic that the prime minister will compare the signing of an agreement to restart and complete construction at Bah Mar to Shaunae Miller's dive across the finish line to claim first place and a gold medal. When Shaunae took the dive and slid across the finish line, she knew that it was the last and final move she had and, regardless of the outcome, her race was finished and her position in the line up was complete. With Bah Mar this is definitely not a dash across the finish line and in fact even if this was a relay, most people, Bahamians especially, do not even believe it is the anchor leg of the project. Some may even doubt that Bah Mar has reached the third leg of its race to success. Some feel it is just a political ploy (election soon come) and the concessions given to The Chinese and others to get Bah Mar to get moving is still top secret. And many are still skeptical that the project will actually be re-started, and will believe it only when they see it, if only because of the many false starts and empty promises and worthless assurances by the same prime minister. But hopefully it is a genuine and real announcement this time and Bah Mar will be off to another start. And hopefully the Bahamian natives will not have given away an arm and two legs to the Chinese to get to this point. With the softening economy, worldwide the Bah Mar battle is still an uphill one and is far from being a dive across the finish line. Very far. But any progress is good progress. Hopefully the government has now become more skillful and experienced with negotiating with the Chinese and with multi billion contracts in general and they will not let this one slip from underneath them. In the main time they (the government) should be busying themselves with "what if" projects in case all does not bid well with Bah Mar, especially since the project alone, and even with its spin off's do not solve the unemployment problem and it seems to be a definite case of 'putting too many eggs in the same basket.'

John 8 years, 2 months ago on PM: No secrecy over Baha Mar

Back to basics: The Bahamaian people by way of its government, led by Perry Gladstone Christie has already invested and given over $1 billion to Bah Mar with no equity. One third of the value of the project. If the government sees the need to grant more concessions and gifts to this project then they need to come bail out every Bahamian business that is struggling, pay off every mortgage for Bahamians and cancel all VAT and property taxes for the duration of the concessions with Bah Mar. Remember the problems with Bah Mar were caused by a contractors shoddy performance and strong arming by the bank
