Baha10 6 years, 9 months ago on Davis: Minnis should get out of Oban deal

Why then did the PLP with Davis as DPM approve the very same Project?!? Presumably they acknowledged that Grand Bahama is historically zoned for industrial development and this Project would go a long way to rejuvenating an otherwise depressed economy in a manner as environmentally sound as reasonably possible by placement of the Faciility next to an existing Oli Terminal at South Riding Point some 35+ miles from Freeport. Indeed, this Facility will be noticeably more environmentally friendly than either of the other 2 existing Oil Terminals on Grand Bahama by virtue of modern technology and will in turn, provide much needed high end employment for young Bahamians who currently have little, if any such prospects. Imagine, our Kids might actually be able to be Scientists, Chemical Engineers, etc. in their own Country, as opposed to bell hops and maids.

Government needs to negotiate where we become the 1st stop on these 7 day cruises instead of the last. By time they get to Nassau the passengers are spent (mentally and physically) and have little urge to explore or spend anymore. Also, we need to negotiate where passengers have the option to board the ships in Nassau instead of Florida. Hopefully then some of these passengers will arrive a day or two early - stay in a hotel and enjoy what Nassau has to offer.

Agreed Bana...They keep forgetting about the other 2 other refineries already in GB. I See Brave is brave enough enough to speak out on bad deal now even though its old story. I still remember him as D.P.M a few months ago where was extremely quiet as all sorts of corruption was taking place in his government, same for Chester Cooper. He seem to forget it was his ministry that made the deal to change from BEC to BPL, with the shameful woman Palema Hill at the helm. That was just as bad a deal. Now he is claiming he knows what a bad deal is That's is why I don't get in arguments over politics or parties, waste of time.

observer...yes, and when you factor in the lower cost of living in the US, that 4x salary becomes about 7x.

Trump has offered (thru back channels) for The Bahamas to become the 51st state - but our leaders have refused without (as usual) even consulting the public.

Read some of the other comments and you would see that the US taxes doesn't make that much of a difference. Also, with the cost of living which includes gas prices, and now VAT. I would say they would make a lot more in the US.

With over 40 cruise ships under construction world wide until 2026, all of the major cruise lines will be dupilcating the developement or buying or upgrading their own private islands. While the Bahamas is blessed to have so many to chose from, the gov should 1) Mandate the percentage of Bahamians employed on each island. 2) Put policies in place to not only tax the landing head count but also Tax the use of all attractions and amenities. 3) Tax cruse ships for time spent at these islands by implementing dockage fees 4) A section of the port department should be created for inspecting and regulating the safety of attractions with bi annual inspections.5) Mandate in all agreements with all cruise lines that some ships must call at inhabited Bahamian ports in porportion to the ones stopping at the privatse islands.

you poor sick people, your main masomeyhing most can't understandbbn lose ,your free meal ticket gone at least for the next 16 years an you dont know what to do, so you ask for the head of the pm who really dont have anything to do with this whole thing, his job is to try to convince you jokers that oban is the best thing that happen to the bahamas since freeport, and look at how you'all screwed that up .so the lady felt like she can still salvage some of that fiaco with another bigger project one you people cannot understand, some say it cannot be good or real because no one has offered bribes or deal to the boys, dont hold your breath, this is a brand new day for the bahamas,no deals no bribes,no nothing.so get off your lazy behinds,go to school to qualify yourselves, and get ready for the most prosperous era since rum running,An dont worry about crown land they are all being taken away and given to people that will use it to help all the people.

I see some of our thinking is already into the years 2030 and beyond, but i remind all of you that the first block has not been laid yet. The Lord may come before this can get started. Why can't you all relax and let the game come too us, especially those who are not residents of this island . I have noticed that Our News has been reporting about OBAN now everyday for a while. Its bias reporting. It seems that the only stories they report are the negative aspects of Oban. They have yet to report or interview persons on the positive side. I will tell you that more persons are for this project than those against it. And just a word of caution Mr. Comrade, the majority of persons staying in Freeport would wish to stay here. No one really desires to live in Nassau. That why we hope investment like Oban would come here. I always say that recession is only for those who can't pay their bills... It is still quiet, clean and car free with garbage being collected 2 times a week like clock work. We like it that way, just allow investments to come, that is all we ask

Baha10 6 years, 9 months ago on Dhunna defends Oban to split GB audience

It would be nice to get some accurate reporting on this Project, as from those who attended, including the Elite Media from Nassau, there were no more than 5 or so opposed out of approx. 200 in attendance. Indeed, contrary to the reporting by the Elite Media from Nassau, who are certainly not worried about putting food on the table for their Families this or any other Evening, there is overwhelming support for this Project among East Enders, so let them decide, as at the end of the day, it is their Island, not Nassau's and they have suffered for far too long.

truetruebahamian 6 years, 2 months ago on Post Office’s new landlord - Brent?

It is better for the government to rent than own as the landlord's responsibility would be to maintain and insure. Government does not appear to do that with any of its own buildings..

John you need to dismount from your dead racist horse, you trying to make a case that the government only rents from white descendants of the Bay Street boys? Take a good look around you and see who the new Bay Street Boys are, but I guess its OK for the government to rent from the numbers boys and Leslie Miller an Frankie Wilson dem............

Dawes 6 years, 2 months ago on Post Office’s new landlord - Brent?

So let me get this straight. The Government should not rent from Brent even if the location he has is the better option because it seems wrong? This is silly thinking. When you compare Town Centre to the old City market, Town Centre wins hands down. It won't cost as much to convert (the building is there and open), There is more parking, there are other stores in the location meaning the landlord has to keep the place clean for them as well as the post office. This is one of those decisions which actually makes sense (unlike that silly Gladstone road one).

Now there are plenty of other Government buildings that are rented which shouldn't be, but this is probably the quickest and cheapest option to sort out that post office

You talking 'bout the same "conflict of interest" that caused Christie to fire Shane Gibson, Leslie Miller and Jerome Fitzgerald? Some people can't see the forest for the trees.
