John, you are so profoundly correct it's scary and sad. I don't want to be a Chinese...I'd they infiltrate , which I believe is their goal, we won't be a sovereign nation anymore. I love my country and don't want foreign entities or governments dictating to or taking us over. This is serious.

Well, at least now they got him on record saying it - so when he does the opposite, then the facts will be clear.

Ya'll best start teaching your kids Mandarin. Don't be surprised if it is offered in schools for the January 2016 term.

It is Christie & Co. that is destroying the brand of the Bahamas. This war of words is childish and un-statesmanlike. The Privy Council will back the Delaware court, but by that time, it will be too late, and Christie will have destroyed Baha Mar and the Bahamas.

A sad situation for many. Does this mean China Construction and China Bank will take over funding of the completions of the project. If the gover tries to provide funding the country will sink. Financially!

Exactly what you said. Going through Chapter 11 would have had construction going again now with a set completion date, creditors would know how long the wait for their money will be, and we wouldn't look like a country of thieving idiots. But hey, the boys on top had to protect their kickbacks from the Pointe building so they sided with the Chinese.

So incredibly sad. They put their own interests above that of the nation.

Do you remember when Perry and his band of merry men promised us that if we brought the liquidation home, Baha Mar would be open for Christmas?

They fought tooth and nail to stop the Chapter 11 process. Mitchell told us that Izmirlian should be deported since he was destroying our economy. Christie said that he was mentally unstable and Shane Gibson said that all future foreign direct investors should undergo psychological testing.

They promised us over and over again that all would be good if we trusted them. The Chinese were our friends and would look after us. They would make this project happen.

Well, it was all lies, lies, lies! I hear Izmirlian is OUT! The Chinese are refusing to put any more money in and nothing is going according to plan. It is one big f**** disaster! They should have stuck with the Chapter 11 plan! At least, the developer would have put in the money to keep the project going, the restructuring process would have been complete by now, and Bahamians would have been paid and back to work finishing the project.

But no! Their love affair with the Chinese was too intense. Too close and too intimate! And look a good sweat heart, the Chinese screwed them!

The chinese got what they always wanted. They knew if they had tried to get the hotel done on their own government would have refused. They loan Izzy the money and just before the place was completed they pulled the rug from under him,now the Chinese state own one of the largest piece of prime land in this side of the planet. It was all facilitated by this inept government. Brush on yall mandarin cause yall ger need it.

You might well be correct. China can afford to lose a few billion dollars on the project in order to create a stranglehold on the Bahamian economy. From the Chinese perspective they have just purchased another vote at the United Nations.

TalRussell 9 years ago on Police chief not surprised by rising murder count

I believe the Comrade Commish was the best person for the job at the time. Many still feel his integrity has remained untarnished. I can only wonder if he really knew how political his new job would turn out be?
His leadership today calls for him - not to allow his frustration to excuse his policeman's from doing their jobs of vigorously providing public safety. It is important for the Commish to recognize that for his policeman's to stay true to the larger mission of providing pubic safety, they must begin to repair the distrust held by so many members of our nation's communities.
Any member of the force, regardless of their rank or years of service, who is opposed to change - is not worthy of retaining his/her badge and should either be dismissed or transferred to another department of government.
I would like to remind the Commish that it was none other than former prime minister Papa Hubert, who stood up in the House of Assembly to apologize for his red regime's terrible mistake in denying bail under his regime's mandatory sentencing. In fact Papa said; it was a bitter pill to swallow over - how damn wrong his regime were to cause so many be jailed.

Commenter JohnBuchanan above is nothing but a paid hack/troll for the parties being sued by the Izmirlian family in the High Court in the UK. In essence, JohnBuchanan is a fervent (and I dare say, gleeful) supporter of the Christie led-PLP government in all that it has done and will continue to do to ensure that the failure of the Baha Mar project takes a maximum toll on the economy of the Bahamas and the Bahamian people. From this point forward I will be ignoring (not even reading) anything he may have to say......after all, tripe is tripe no matter how well intentioned it may be and fiction, not matter how well masked, is just that, fiction!

An unfortunate situation especially for the Bahamian populace. In retrospect, it does seem like the developer should have attempted mediation with the contractor sooner. Then the government should have stayed out of the way and let the Chapter 11 go through. Maybe the Chinese companies would have been successful in having the U.S. bankruptcy dismissed but then again maybe not. And, if the Chapter 11 would have been allowed to proceed, it would have been a vastly better outcome for the creditors including the Bahamian contractors. The PM is not doing the country any favors at this point. Bran's recent comments on the present situation are right on.
