Yeh they're allowed peaceful protest over there so the po po won't be locking no one up.

Sry but where Obie been????? O they was busy talking with lawyers about that sign on the container trailer tainting Perry's own character (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y63xCxy… comes with the job of being PM. Meanwhile , from July!! there's been protest at cruise ships pulling out http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/07/15/3…. Why so late? O Mitchell was tryna brush under the first international movement against our lack of compliance with UNHCR back then. And the protests had stopped except gov went making viscous examples that very day which sparked further efforts (http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/2013/8/…). What happened different to cause action now?

We don't expect truth to come out? Not addressing is allowing.

You are totally missing the point and turning this into an issue of judgement and prejudice which is not the point most of the concerned commentators are making here. It also appears that you are adding more to the story than what the Tribune has reported. It seems you have a chip on your own shoulder when it comes to who should be judged , whether rich, poor, black, white etc.

Where in the article did you see the swiss bank manager quoted as saying anything about his wealth in relation to his arrest? No matter what race, religion, gender or nationality you are, human beings have rights. we are all HUMAN BEINGS, or did you forget that?

Last time I checked, we all have 24 hours to produce a friggen driver's license in this country after an accident. You're telling me this man didn't have an hour to retrieve documents stating he was here legally? It's about how you treat people man, not all violence and scare tactics are necessary all of the time.

My point applies to all people, Bahamians and foreigners alike. Generally speaking, the police here speak to people in a nasty way, a lot of the times it is uncalled for. I had a policeman row me one time for winding down my window while they were conducting random road checks- for no reason in a very hostile way. Some of these officers need to learn how to talk to people in order to get what they want BEFORE moving to brute force.

Well what most Bahamians need to realize is that the Bahamas is like a speck of sand on the world map. We have been fooled to believe that we are self-efficient. Most of us think that these “white” people need us because we gat we sun, we sand and we sea; they need to come here because they country ‘frig’ up and they gat more opportunities here. Well I say wake up before it gets too late. Globalization is inevitable! These spoil brats who live in their cocoons, looking for hand outs, blaming everyone but themselves for their misery, while sitting down gossiping and waiting for their numbers to fall, will soon he zapped into reality.

The white foreigners can laugh. That is their rights. But one can only get offended if one is indeed a dumbass. This issue is not about white foreigners versus local workers etc. The issue at hand is people need to carry out their duties with dignity and respect. Further, Bahamians need to get this shit from the back of their mind that oh, “here’s an opportunity for me to get back at the white man”, let’s show him that we rule in this country”. And the way, I don’t think foreign is better. I have seen multiple talents that if given the chance can be on par with the world. Blame the government for not giving Bahamians the opportunity to become successful entrepreneurs, not the foreigners. Oh, and I speak with a lot ‘white’ foreigners all the time also, and they believe that Bahamians are very talented. But I guess you and I speak to two different kinds of foreigners.

While we need MORE SUSTAINED ROAD BLOCKS, Government is using these Immigration road block stunts as a scapegoat to "appear" as if they are serious about illegal immigrants. Any Nassuvian can take immigration to shanty towns where 1000's of illegals run wild.

Instead of farting around with Mr. Fiaux and other lesser numbered white collar illegal immigrants, why not start by seriously targeting Haitians, Jamaicans and Africans as they are the LARGEST NUMBERS OF offenders in our midst.

Immigration can raid any Haitian shanty town and collect literally 100's if not 1000's of illegals EVERY DAY.

Anyone living down Unison road off Carmichael Road can tell tails of living in fear of the Haitian Tonton Macoutes' that can be heard holding nightly military style training exercises that begin after midnight and last into the wee hours.......Where the @#$%^&* are Immigration, police and defense force to sort this problem out?

We will not accept this smoke and mirror facade of action by Immigration while we cannot sleep worrying about when the chanting of the Haitian Tonton Macoutes will turn into real ATTACKS on our families.......Which is bound to happen sooner or later.

How many illegal bankers are here?.....100?.....Vs...How many illegal Haitians , Jamaicans and Africans 100,000?

Stop frigging around with harmless bankers and deal with the real problems that are costing Bahamians 1000's of jobs and lost income.......HAITIANS, JAMAICANS AND AFRICANS!

Good Afternoon Sir, I am an immigration officer, and we are checking people to verify their residency status. Are you a Bahamian sir?

No.

Are you a legal resident.

Yes.

May I please see your work permit sir?

I do not have them with me.

May I please see some identification.

Yes (p*ssed off).

(Immigration officer...Did he just roll his eyes at me or say something cheeky....I'll show his white a&$ who is boss)

Please get out of the vehicle sir, we need to take you in for processing, at which point a couple police officers armed with machine guns spin the guy around and put on handcuffs and probably grab him up under his arms and shove him on a bus.

Kinda thinking that's more of how it happened.

Reality_Check 11 years, 2 months ago on National debt near $5.5bn by mid-2014

Agencies of U.S. government (i.e., IMF, WTO et al.) all tell PLP and FNM governments alike the Bahamas must borrow heavily during bad economic times (i.e., highly inefficient government economic activity must step in when much more efficient private economic activity declines), then these same agencies tell the Bahamas government that the Bahamas taxation system must be changed from customs duties to VAT asap (no matter how disruptive and damaging to the economy), and then, finally, these very same agencies come along and down grade the economic health of the Bahamas so that it finds itself having to pay higher amounts of interest on increasing amounts of foreign currency denominated debt when it can least afford to do so, and so the financial health of the Bahamas continues to spiral downwards, almost out of control, as the U.S. desires and considers to be in its own economic and national security interests..... Bahamians are really too stupid to have a well managed sovereign nation....they ask (deserve ?) to be stomped on by foreign interests! Ryan Pinder and his operatives are doing well in carrying out the mission / objectives of the U.S. when it come to the economic demise of the Bahamas.

Stem cell research another can of worms... There is a lot of controversy around this topic. I hope the administration has looked at it seriously and not been wooed by a new sexy term on the horizon. This area of research is heavily regulated in the US, please be careful of those who would want to take advantage of lax regulations in a developing country.

Being photographed with Comrade Peter has become a magnet for government officials. Some scientific research thing the government of we Bahamaland seems to have gotten behind, when non scientific research facts are not required to be produced as rsearch evidence, before a much too controversial "fashion designer" to the likes of many Bahamalander's, can publicly state while being photographed in the presence of government officials, how he is getting younger, after "he" Comrade Peter has done reversed he own aging process using stem cells. I could thick of some other places Comrade Pete should be stick'in some larger does of he anti-aging needles up. And pretty sure when he bends over there will be government officials at close proximity to lend some helping injecting hands.

These persons are wasting their time. The government is not going to listen to a majority vote, they already said that this is still going forward cheapest you get ready for VAT, they aint trying nothing else. Our deficit is too high, PGC is too scared to do anything deemed necessary for this country, they rather tax and slave the poor to save their own pockets and make up for their ludicrous spending and high salaries. It would be completely ridiculous and shameful to impose VAT on the people before imposing a tax system on this numbers loop hole.

And. lest we forget: the alternative is PAYROLL TAX!!!! PAYROLL TAX FOLKS!!!

With vat, you can minimise your profile by seeking no tax or low-tax items. Preparing your own meals, and learning how ro do minor repairs on your appliances.

But pay roll, you are hit for certain, and and, they will keep increasing it.

And , the VAT consultant is not on payroll, so he dont pay nothing while ducking the long-standing property tax.

banker 11 years, 1 month ago on Dubai trade mission could spark 1990's style 'resurgence'

As an example, he pointed to Switzerland’s decision to chase out any accounts where beneficial owners could not prove they were in compliance with home country tax laws.

Moss is an idiot. Everyone is cleaning house, and he wants to bring this country to further disrepute and put us under the microscope again with the IMF and OECD.

I heard an ex-governor of the Central Bank say that if we modernised our banking, and eliminate exchange controls, folks from around the world would flock to do their banking here because we are not American banks. If we were in full FATCA compliance, and had a modern infrastructure, we would do a tremendous amount of American business. We wouldn't have to catch the crumbs of the crooks and tax evaders.

Visionless jokers like Moss can't see that. He doesn't mind selling the integrity of the Bahamas and its banking system to make money off tax cheats.

It's time for a change.

SP 11 years, 9 months ago on ‘Attempted suicides’ of two boys investigated

These two teenagers’ suicide attempts and recent suicides are undeniable messages’ that Bahamians have surpassed the threshold to mentally deal with the degradation of unemployment.

Children easily develop feeling of depression or feelings of loneliness or helplessness and humiliation caused by watching their parents suffer joblessness, unpaid rents or mortgages, power off, water off and empty food cupboards.

It is also important to realize that 90 percent of those who kill themselves actually have depression or some other mental health issue-The CDC reports that it is the third leading cause of death for youth ages 15 to 24. The only two things that cause more death among teenagers are accidents (usually in the car) and homicide. And even younger children do not escape. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 14.

Bahamians' are extremely succepaical to rapid development of suicidal tendencies during financial difficulties because Bahamians' are simply unaccustomed to financial loss caused stress's.

Unlike Haitians', Jamaicans', Philippians’ and Latinos’ who were born into poverty and accustomed to living without basic infrastructure and comforts of life, Bahamians have always enjoyed a higher standard of living and know nothing else.

The average Bahamian mindset is one of pride and totally different than Haitians', Jamaicans', Philippians’ and Latinos’ in that they are generally unwilling to migrate out of the Bahamas in search of a better way of life because of a perception that life in the Bahamas is better for them than it could ever be United States or elsewhere.

Government must stop the procrastination, get off their hands and get our people back to work. Getting rid of the 35,000 blue collar workers brought in by the FNM must be accelerated at all cost. Why must we be "humane" enough to give the foreign workers 1 year notice but not "humane" enough to save our people from suicide by making jobs that are rightfully theirs available to them immediately?

Manpower? We have thousands without jobs, that can be manpower there, but then again, we aint got no money to pay them and minimum wage in this day and age is a joke. They should just say They aint got no money instead of blaming the people and taxing them for every little thing, we are already spending double on what a product is actually worth and they also want to tax.

I keep reading this crap and wonder if they even realize what words they are spewing out of their mouths...very distressing to see how they are just going to brush it off and ignore it. RPT on my home will be in the neighbourhood of $12,000 this year...scares the crap out of me as to how I am going to pay it...guess I should just not bother apparently. Thank you Mr. Halkitis...after all, I am enduring some hardships and will be unable to pay my just due taxes. According to your logic...and everyone else in government...BOTH FNM and PLP...we won't be coming after you anyways...and legal action is always the very last resort...so hey...I'm cool!!
