Former PM calls ruling on last speech 'bogus'

FORMER Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham yesterday condemned the actions of the Speaker of the House as “bogus” and politically motivated after he was denied the opportunity to address the House of Assembly as a resigning member, an agreement he claimed to have made with the Speaker.

“I think.” said Mr Major, “that would’ve been a wonderful opportunity for the Bahamian people to hear from the statesman who has served his country for 40 years.

“But I believe choosing the 19th had more to do with this being the anniversary of his appointment to Parliament, therefore it has special significance to him.

“There is no House session on the 19th and there won’t be a House session till the 25th.”

Today is the 25th - The Speaker was aware of the issue and supported the idea - Why then not let him speak? - Even those who despised the man could have relished in the fact that this would be the last time they would hear from him. Its disgraceful and a blight on our parliamentary democracy

The Prime Minister is only showing who he truly is and that is a petty, vindictive, coward and spineless individual. Not allowing the PM to speak will only show how jealous he is of the former Prime Ministers accomplishment. Hope when he carries our country to the bring of destruction in the next 4 years he don't go run crying to HAI!

Here is quote from a 2002 Fred Mitchell speech in Fox Hill, which he posted the transcription of on his own website.....

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is important for you to turn up to your respective polling stations and to vote ‘NO’. You must vote ‘NO’ to all five questions. I am like the Honourable Arthur D. Hanna in that regard. I don’t need to know the facts. I just need to know where to vote ‘NO’. "

Anyone who believes that what happened was not orchestrated is beyond naive. PLP you get no brownie points for this...and this is coming from a person who really had no great love for the former Prime Minister and is pretty ambivalent about the present Prime Minister and their parties.

Nothing will hapen with this, nothing will be done.

Christie only said this because the report came back and he didn't want us to say that he didn't respond and take action.

In the mind of his supporters - he did take action - he spoke about it.

So he has acted on it.

We will never hear anything else on the matter,

you watch...

We must also remember that what our lleaders do is no longer behind closed doors...not only is the world watching but we have future generations of Bahamians watching and seeing how we treat people who have served this country with dedication and distinction. Allow them to go GRACEFULLY into that goodnight.

But then too, the bible informs us that in the end days governments will fail because rather than being about the peoples' business leaders will have minds of children and get caught up in unnecessary situations and brawls, not unlike we are seeing before our eyes right now. Prophecy is being fulfilled.

This story alone should indicate to us that politicians lack integrity! Well, by damn! So in 2002 Bahamian women weren't being discriminated against by the Constitution, hey? I suppose this is what we the collective get when we fail to accept responsibility for ourselves and solely rely on politicians to guide and direct us!

PM Christie you the man with the House majority so there's no need to be doing all this Yakety Yak. Bring a Bill to the House and "pass" it.

I supported you but I really need to know if the numbers man's handed over money to the PLP directly, or indirectly through your 2012 candidates? For this you done have all the answers about the numbers man's money and me and lots more want to know how much and who got the cash?

Right now your government's proposed referendum seems to be too tainted to take before the natives.

mynameis 12 years, 4 months ago on PM defends PLP's blocking of previous referendum

The announcement by Minister Mitchell of a second referendum on the equalization of womens' rights and now the Prime Minister's defence of the stance taken by his party on the referendum which included the issue is really one for the books...the particular books being entitled "Hyprocrite!" I know that there are some persons out there who would have been blissfully unaware of the campaign waged by the PLP in 2002 against "the Referendum" because they were too young at the time, but I cannot forget what their message was - "Vote NO..regardless of the question being asked!" One would have thought that the one question concerning the equal treatment of Bahamian women would have gained the support of Bahamian women and been a non-partsan question. But that was not to be, because the PLP decided to use the occasion as a pre-test to General Elections and in true non-nation building fashion obscured the issues so much that at the appointed day, Bahamian women were certain that to vote "yes" on the question of their equal treatment would mean that their husband's outside children would inherit what their legitimate children would. The politically-led "church" then added their two cents. The issues of inheritance had nothing to do with the equal treatment of women...but the ignorant and misinformed Bahamian woman didn't care about being discriminated against by the Constitution if changing the status quo meant that the outside children would inherit what she and her philandering husband had worked for. Mr. Christie now claims that the reason for his party's opposition was due to the process and not the content and that the failure of the referendum was a matter of not opposing public will...a number of words come to my mind when I consider that statement...but none of them are printable, particularly as the "public will" he is talking about was deliberately twisted by a concerted and selfish propaganda machine that didn't give a damn about the effect on roughly one half of the population or international opinion. Now, international opinion matters, but not the impact of the discrimination on the Bahamian woman. But I will say that being involved in politics must have a deleterious effect on character, otherwise a person could not with a straight face stand up time and time again and say the things they do when there is a clear record of what what said previously!

This is a sad day for Bahamians not because of the issues of Cable & Wireless but because of our inability (as citizens) to move on from our sense of entitlement. As I read the comments posted all I see are emotional irrational responses. Instead of encouraging disruptive behavior, the unions should focus on preparing Bahamians to compete in the new workforce.

PM what more is there left to be said by your other cabinet horses colleagues in the 'Vote Yes" race, that could be any more persuasive than what the voters answered you with yesterday at "every" polling station across Bahamaland?

PM there is only two people you should be summoning to your office. The Commish for the policemen's and your Minister for national security? Them is the only two fellas necessary to start shutting down the numbers "bosses" illegal operations.

PM you can order BEC to bust the web-shops lights services. You try running them gambling computers with no power? Then, sit back and wait for their high-priced lawyers to sue the government. Put the shoe on the numbers "bosses" foots to prove before the judge, that they are indeed no more than internet cafe's running legitimate neighborhood businesses?
