birdiestrachan 8 years, 11 months ago on THE BIG QUESTION: What would YOU do to reduce crime in 2016?

In my view the problems lie in the homes. The home is the first church and the first school. what kind of homes are these people coming out of?. and being poor is no excuse. The blame game will not work. every human being should look in the mirror and say "I and I alone is responsible for my actions" I know that some parents try. But once you see your child going the wrong way. Put a stop to it before it goes to far. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Also parents should be good examples for their children. some one once said " preach with your life and if necessary use words."

ohdrap4 7 years, 10 months ago on Baha Mar’s foreign creditors to get ‘3-4 cents on dollar’ offer

well it is noted that this issue did not attract many comments. Bahamians do not care about foreigners.

The tribune has published over the years numerous accounts of discrimination against foreign spouses of bahamians or the so called paper bahamians and no one does anything to change the situation.

these foreign contractors are even more removed from this situation.

A former employer of mine was once sub for a foreign contractor and the top boss came to the bahamas to resolve some outstanding issues, he was incredulous to see that the difficulties of doing business were real. he said his company would never again do business in the Bahamas. that was in 1993.

I sent a letter to the MOT two weeks ago letting them know this concert was somewhere between ridiculously over-ambitious and an outright scam. MOT has now released a statement saying nothing is their fault. Seriously. This is going to turn in to another Anna Nicole 'infamy' for this country and all I can think is that everyone at MOT probably got well greased to permit this debacle

ThisIsOurs 5 years, 2 months ago on Do you think the new Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction will help the Bahamas to effectively prepare for severe storms in the future?

It would be a good idea if executed as stated, but we know what will happen. Just as we knew 2 months after election that the new administration was unprepared to govern the country. We had Irma and Joaquin. we weren't even prepared for those lessons learned.

The ministry will suffer from the same ills as every other ministry. Constant political interference and it will be stuffed to the rafters with constituents unqualified for the tasks assigned. The criteria for every senior post will be FNM supporter. The PM.will have to approve the hires. Then the PLP will come in and switch everybody with their supporters. The budget will grow exponentially every 5 years and noone will be able to account for what was had for the cost. In 10 years the new narrative will be 1000 people depend on these jobs we need this ministry. And so passes the grand idea for the new ministry

seaward 2 years, 5 months ago on PM suggests carbon exchange in Bahamas

What is the additionality value of Bahamas blue carbon? Only actions that are additional to the baseline can be sold on the voluntary carbon market. There may be great standing stock of blue carbon in the Bahamas, however its continued existence is not an additional activity, it would exist regardless of any carbon offsetting, hence the standing stock cant be sold.

ThisIsOurs 2 years ago on Sir Franklyn: FTX is ‘not our first rodeo’

"Sir Franklyn, meanwhile, said FTX’s collapse did not necessarily mean there were weaknesses or deficiencies in The Bahamas’ regulatory regime. “Sometimes businesses fail."

But this business didnt just "fail" due to an unfavourable business environment, it appears that there were some really careless and suspect actions by the owners and a failure to recognize the signs by the SCB.

Sometimes businesses are reckless and noone is watching. That sums up this situation

TalRussell 2 years ago on AG says govt did not seize assets from FTX

New York's Southern District Prosecutors Office, has a long history and well deserved reputation of being tenacious to a fault.

Sources are saying, several months before its collapse, prosecutors in Manhattan had commenced sweeping examinations of FTX cryptocurrency platforms, including FTX's Bahamas Exchange Operations.

If reports are accurate, Comrade Attorney General, it's reasonable to ask. If prosecutors in Manhattan, had good reason not have made contact with Bahamian officials?

Which opens whole new level questions, like, if prosecutors were in contact with local officials, Was there more known by local officials, and much earlier, — Yes?
