LMAO......it's gonna be a whole hell-of-a-lot more than 15% of your average monthly bill for the next 10 months....it's gonna be more like 33% or more for the next two decades!

It might make much more economic sense for many of us to simply pay the right person under the table for the privilege of being put on the infamous 'DO NOT DISCONNECT LIST'. Better still, give the right field technicians at BPL a cash gift to tap (trench) you into the power grid so you can secretly pirate electricity for free. ROWL

First, let me say that I think U.S. medical care is far superior to rationed socialized medicine in my opinion. Regarding your letter, the major flaw is your reliance on statistics provided by the Chinese Communist Party regarding the numbers of infected and deaths. There is substantial evidence that the numbers they have provided are mere fairy tales. It is China's authoritarian state that suppressed reportage of the initial outbreak and, in cahoots with the World Health Organization, downplayed the severity of the outbreak. These officials allowed the festivities in Wuhan to go on unhindered and spread the virus throughout the world. The U.S., and by proxy, The Bahamas and the entire Caribbean would most likely not be in this predicament if China had addressed the issue at its onset. I also agree that there must be solutions short of shutting down the entire economy of a nation. Unfortunately for us in The Bahamas, THAT DECISION was made by other governments. Our reliance on tourism means that those decisions will continue to be made by others for the foreseeable future.

... the absence of a free media in China makes it impossible to believe any stats that come out of that country! Online trends are showing that even Chinese citizens are suspicious of the reports coming out of their own country!

DDK: Very kind of you to express concern about the suffering people of Abaco and Grand Bahama. The remainder of the country is beginning to feel the effects of what is called a national emergency that appears to be driving us backwards economically. How far back we will go is yet to be seen. However, the good people of Abaco and Grand Bahama are fully aware of the extent of the severe damage inflicted upon them. Think about power lines in your residential areas still on the ground 7 months after the storm. People buy ice from the food store sometimes every other day and hope that their generator continues to run and that they can continue to afford fuel for it.

I realize that we need to have an exam for any person who wants to become Prime Minister. No campaigning, being elected party leader or any of that nonsense. The person who scores the highest gets the job.

The questions should revolve around different scenarios and the first question could be something like:

If an infection is spread by person to person contact and you want to reduce spread you should:

a) do nothing

b) control the flow of crowds, practice social distancing and make policing more effective,

c) use government policies to make every come out their house at one time and bundle up together like its Junkanoo, or

d) make and then change rules everyday

On behalf of ALL Abaconians ... THANK YOU ... Rotary for actually “doing” as opposed to “talking” ... and the placement at “Treasure Cay” is appropriate given it was the location of the 1st Rotary Club established in Abaco, which used to meet at the (once “pride of the Caribbean”) Hotel, unfortunately demolished in the 80’s and most regrettably never rebuilt with the consequential effect that Treasure Cay has languished ever since in desperate need of re-birth.

Let’s just keep kicking the can down the road. 8 1/2 months after Dorian and BPL is just now coming to the conclusion they might need more help??!? And, then the old song and dance about “well, the homes aren’t built so they really don’t need power”. What about the boast everything would be powered up by March-back in January? Is it any surprise that no one believes anything that is said out of any government official’s mouth. If I worked for BPL I would be so ashamed I would quit. Of course, where else could I get a job and do mediocre work and still get paid?
